There are a lot of big games coming in 2020. Sure, some of them have been delayed likeCyberpunk 2077andFinal Fantasy VII Remake, but rest assured they will be coming at some point. As it is mid-February, the release schedule is starting to heat up.
Eventually the “too many games” syndrome will become a problem and with it the wallets will certainly start hurting. For those that don’t have a lot of money to spend on AAA games, there are some free ones to get excited over from console releases to phone games. And some are closer than one might think.
10Dragon Quest of the Stars
Dragon Quest of the Starsoriginally debuted onJapanesephones back in 2015. After five years it is now due out for both iOS and Android devices on February 25. It looks like a typical turn-based RPG in theDragon Questworld with character customization. Another mobile game,Dragon Quest Walk, thePokémon GOclone, released in Japan last September so that too may come to the West following this. It could also take five years like this as well.
9Dota Underlords
Dota Underlordsreleased into early access last summer. The official release is also set for February 25 for mobile devices along with PC platforms. To console players that missed this trend,Dota Underlordsis an auto-battler game.

Players basically set up their units and just watch them fight it out with little input.Dota Auto Chesswas the first game in this genre and from there sprung dozens of copycats. That was developed by Drodo Studio as a mod toDota 2. This then is Valve’s official tie-in.
8Kingdom Hearts Dark Road
This was first announced asProject Xehanortfollowing the release ofKingdom Hearts III’sDLC at the end of January. Shortly after this title was revealed along with a Spring 2020 release window and a tease that more information would be coming in mid-February.

This means that readers may know more than this article at the time of publication. As the image shows young Xehanort playing chess, it is obviously a game about the series’ villain, but the genre for this mobile game is unknown. Since he is playing chess, maybe this too will be an auto battler.
7Phantasy Star Online 2
Phantasy Star Online 2released all the way back in 2012 in Japan for PCs. Since then it has jumped to multiple platforms with multiple opportunities to finally get an English translation via the PS Vita, PS4, and Nintendo Switch versions. At long last it will appear in the West sometime this spring. In fact, some people have already played it on Xbox One via a beta. To give some more context, the originalPhantasy Star Onlinelaunched in 2001 on the Dreamcast. So needless to say fans have been hungry for a proper sequel for some time now.
6Sky: Children of the Light
Sky: Children of the Light, also known as justSky, is the next game from Thatgamecompany. Their last game was 2012’s Journey on PS3. So likePhantasy Star Online 2, fans of the developer have been hungry for the next experience. This game did release last year on iOS and Android devices, but it is supposed to release on consoles sometime this year as well.
5CrossFire X
CrossFireoriginally released as a free to play multiplayer-focused PC game in 2009 for North America.CrossFire X, announced at E3 2019, is a console remake with a single-player campaign being developed by Remedy Entertainment. They are also making the campaign for the sequel,CrossFire 2, which is the first time the company has developed anything outside of their own games’ internal projects. No date has been given outside of 2020.
4Roller Champions
Roller Championswas also unveiled at E3 2019. It was actually leaked, along with many other projects, before the event took place. What wasn’t known by that leak was that the game would be free to play.

It’s not like Ubisoft hasn’t done this sort of pricing model before, but it is certainly rare for them. This extreme take on roller derby just has a tentative early 2020 window for release. As of right now only the PC version has been announced.
3Diablo Immortal
Diablo Immortal’sannouncement at BlizzCon 2018 got a lot of backlash. It wasn’t what fans were hoping for. They wantedDiablo IV, which they did get to see at last year’s BlizzCon. That saidBlizzardhas teased that that game is far off. SinceDiablo Immortalhas already gotten into the hands of phone players via betas, and because it has already been two years, chances are this game will launch sometime in 2020. For some context, it takes place between the second and third game.
2The Elder Scrolls: Blades
The Elder Scrolls: Bladesreleased into early access last year after several delays. 2020 is supposed to be the year it goes out of beta and actually hits consoles as well like the Nintendo Switch. It too is an interquel that takes place betweenOblivionandSkyrim. It is a first-person dungeon crawling action RPG like the other games, just in smaller proportions.
1Middle-Earth MMORPG
Not much is known about this game as there isn’t even an official title. Here are the facts right now though. This project was announced in 2018 by Athlon Games and it was later revealed in 2019 that Amazon Game Studios was also helping with the project. It takes place beforeThe Lord of the Ringsand will not have any tie-ins to the Amazon produced TV show, or the original MMO,The Lord of the Rings Online, which initially launched in 2007. Even though the game is still supported, fans are ready for a new, more modern feeling MMO. Right now there are no locked on platforms, but they confirmed some console support will be used as well as PC platforms. There is also no date.
