Summary

Remedy Entertainment has announced that it’s pushing the release date for the upcomingAlan Wake2to October 27. The studio, which has reportedly beendevelopingAlan Wake2 since at least 2017finally announced that the much-anticipated sequel will be hitting stores this October. However, it now appears that Remedy may be shifting its schedule slightly.

While October is already packed with numerous high-profile titles likeAssassin’s Creed Mirage,Super Mario Bros. Wonder, andSpider-Man2, Remedy previously stated that thestudio isn’t worried about the competition forAlan Wake2. Remedy’s Communications Director further mentioned that the studio’s only worry is about making the best game possible and that competition will always be there. In any case, it appears that the company may be walking back on that statement now following the announcement of the delay.

As per Remedy, the launch ofAlan Wake2is officially moved to October 27, a delay of 10 days. The studio states that the idea of adjusting the launch date was to give gamers “more space for everyone to enjoy their favorite games.” While the new date does avoid some of the other highly-anticipated titles, it will now be released during the same week as Sony’sSpider-Man2. Back in 2010, the originalAlan Wake’s launch was stifled when it was released in the same week as Rockstar’sRed Dead Redemption. It remains to be seen how far its new release date will impactAlan Wake2 sales, particularly as the month is also packed with several horror-themed content releases.

A few months ago, the upcoming title sparked some backlash from the gaming community when it mentioned thatAlan Wake2 will be a digital-only release. Although, the company defended the decision stating that part of the reason for the approach is to give “more time to polish the game.” The lack of a physical disc would mean that Remedy could technically keep working on the game until its release date. Now that it’s pushed further by 10 days, the studio has a bigger window to work out bugs and glitches before hitting stores.

Alan Wake2 isn’t the only game to adjust its schedule due to the slew of October launches. Early this week, Ubisoft announced thatAssassin’s Creed Miragewill release on October 5, a week prior to its original launch date. WhileAlan Wakefans might have hoped for a similar announcement from Remedy, the delay would mean players will only have to wait 10 days longer to experienceAlan Wake2.
