Ever since the firstAnimal Crossinggame was released, villagers have been found in weird locations, but oneAnimal Crossing: New Horizonsfan may have run into Pietro in the most bizarre place yet. Pietro has become a fan-favoriteAnimal Crossingcharacter since being introduced inNew Leaf, and although he’s strange on a regular occasion, oneAnimal Crossing: New Horizonsplayer has seen him in an even more unusual light.

Animal Crossinghas always been a unique franchise for a multitude of reasons, most notably the fact that the characters in their town will have their own lives whether the player is there or not. When the player is there to interact with the villagers, they often find that the characters had been interacting with each other while they were away and something that one borrowed must be retrieved from another. Going beyond such requests that often reward players withAnimal Crossing: New Horizonsitemsor clothes, this player may have even harder work to do in helping Pietro.

Reddit user Gage64_ has garnered 2,700 upvotes on a screenshot fromAnimal Crossing: New Horizonsshowing two of the characters on their island, with Cherry sitting on the ground near the player and Pietro standing in a body of water. Holding a fishing rod as someAnimal Crossing: New Horizonscharactersare known to do near the water, Pietro is instead two steps into the water and hasn’t cast their line yet. What is likely attributable to anAnimal Crossing: New Horizonsglitch of some sort may instead be a consequence of removing a bridge or terrain manipulation as the player’s attire suggests.

With most responses to Gage64_’s question of how Pietro ended up in the water speculating that it’s a glitch, some players anticipate that there was a bridge there that the popularAnimal Crossing: New Horizonsvillagerhappened to be standing on when it was removed. Because there’s no fish in the pond that Pietro is standing in, theAnimal Crossing: New Horizonscharacter likely just stood there until the player left and returned. Some fans have compared Pietro to the clownfish because of his aesthetic, but the pond in Gage64_’s image would be insufficient for the ocean creature.

Though Pietro is known as the clown villager inAnimal Crossing: New Horizons, it’s extremely rare that any of these characters hop into the water in the way that he has in Gage64_’s post. In most cases, the onlyAnimal Crossing: New Horizonscharacterthat fans will encounter in the water is Pascal who can be found once players acquire the wetsuit for diving in the ocean.

Animal Crossing: New Horizonsis available now for Nintendo Switch.
