The phenomenon that isAnimal Crossing: New Horizonsmay never be fully realized again. By August of last year,Animal Crossing: New Horizonshad sold 22 million copies. The game just keeps on going, as the most recent UK sales show that it again has topped the sales charts.
Last weekHitman 3took the top stop in UK’s weekly sales chart, but the game has already tumbled out of the top 10. ButAnimal Crossing: New Horizonshas climbed right back up. The success of the game in the region makes sense, as theSwitch outsold all other major consoles combined in the UK in 2020.

Animal Crossing: New Horizonsis the top-selling game in the UK for the week ending January 30th, just asAnimal Crossing: New Horizonswas the best selling game in the UK the last week of 2020as well. Amazingly,Mario Kart 8 Deluxe–a game originally sold on the Wii U–is the second best-selling game.
The fact that Mario’s racing title still tops charts is perhaps good news for thesoon to be released and updatedSuper Mario 3D World + Bowser’s Fury. The game draws comparisons toMario Kart 8 Deluxein some ways, in that they are both Wii U titles that have been brought back to the Switch with enhancements.
Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold Warcomes in at number three on the list, which shouldn’t be surprising. TheCall of Dutygames always seem to sell well.Grand Theft Auto 5coming in at number 4, a game originally released in 2013, is still doing extremely well after all of these years.
Spider-Man: Miles Moralesrounds out the top 5, although the list does not specify whether the game is the PS4 version, the PS5 version, or both. The next four games on the list are all Nintendo Switch titles.Minecraft(Switch),Ring Fit Adventure, Just Dance 2021, and thevery well-receivedSuper Mario 3D All-Stars, which will soon be taken off shelves.FIFA 21just makes it on the list at number 10.
Six Nintendo Switch games make the list in total, andAnimal Crossing: New Horizon’s dominance continues to be eye-opening. Many attributed the success of the game to the quarantining that came with COVID-19, but the game continues to top the charts. It could very soon become the best selling Switch game ever. It has already surpassed the likes ofSuper Smash Bros. Ultimate, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild,andSuper Mario Odyssey.
