A new teaser for Marvel Studios’Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumaniafeatures some ominous words from the mysterious and dangerous Kang, but what could it mean for the future of Scott Lang as the Ant-Man himself? Based on the villain’s speech, things could end up pretty dire for the thief-turned-superhero.

While the peek doesn’t offer much new info regarding the upcoming film, it does help bring viewers up to speed onAnt-Man’s previous fun-filled appearancesin the Marvel Cinematic Universe. From the firstAnt-MantoAnt-Man and The Waspand even throughCaptain America: Civil WarandAvengers: Endgame, it’s clear that Paul Rudd’s unlikely hero has more than come into his own throughout his journey. However, that focus on Scott’s legacy may hold some unfortunate implications for what lies ahead.

The teaser/featurette, posted on theMarvel Entertainment YouTube channel, spends the majority of its runtime running through Ant-Man’s history in the MCU. But near the end, the footage shifts to glimpses ofAnt-Man and The Wasp: Quantumaniaas Jonathan Majors' Kang the Conqueror delivers a rather threatening monologue. “Scott Lang,” he says, “your reality, everything you’re holding on to, I know how it ends.” As the camera finally reveals Kang himself in a set of snazzy blue armor, he drops the final line with a confident, “you’re out of your league, Ant-Man.”

Featuring Rudd alongside Evangeline Lilly as Hope van Dyne/Wasp andKathryn Newton as Scott’s grown-up daughter Cassie Lang,Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumaniacontinues the story that’s been in the works since 2015’sAnt-Man. But this time, rather than having to keep his daughter safe, it looks like Scott will now team up with Cassie as she gets her own shrinking suit like her father’s. The film will also feature Michelle Pfeiffer, reprising her role as Janet van Dyne, andMichael Douglas, who reportedly enjoys his time in theAnt-Manmovies, returning as Hank Pym/the original Ant-Man.

After all the troubles Scott and the rest have gone through over the years,Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumaniawill see them all team up to explore the Quantum Realm, which they still barely understand despite using it to save both Janet and the universe. But their new adventure will also pit them against Kang the Conqueror, who became the Multiverse’s new biggest threat afterthe events ofLokiseason 1. There’s no telling how things will shake out, but the terrifying nature of Kang’s warning to Scott could suggest his own story could be in danger of ending.

Whatever happens, it’s clear thatAnt-Man and The Wasp: Quantumaniais set to be a pretty significant event in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, particularly as it’s the first film of Phase 5 in the immense collection of movies and shows. Here’s hoping it sets things up well for the adventures to come.

Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumaniawill release on February 17th, 2023 in theaters.
