Gibraltar has long been a powerful mainstay inApex Legends, appearing in the game since its launch. He may be bigger and easier to hit, but his arm shield, dome shield, and ultimate all have ensured that Gibraltar dominatesApex Legendstier lists…even if not everyone prefers to play him in Respawn’s battle royale title set in theTitanfalluniverse.
Fans have known aboutApex LegendsandTitanfall’s connectionsince day one, and this is something the game has really pushed time and again. MoreTitanfallconnections in the future seem almost certain, but it seems the early connections were a little more than just connections.

Moy Parra, the lead animator at Respawn Entertainment working onApex Legends, recently took to social media to show early concept art for Gibraltar. This concept art comes back from a time when everyApex Legendscharacter was actually a pilot, sometime before they were dubbed “Legends.” Part of these pilots in theApex Legendsuniverse means really cool helmets, and fans of the franchise can see Gibraltar’s pilot helmet below.
Parra reveals that Respawn used to call Gibraltar the “Beatle Pilot” to the Beatle-like horned protrusion on his helmet. Overall, it’s still a pretty sharp-looking helmet for Gibraltar. Two of these image showed a short protrusion, while the other showed a more elongated one—coming up quite a bit off his helmet. Seeing the Beatle Pilot whip out a dome, bubble, and charge into battle with abeautiful war axe heirloommakes him all the more interesting. Otherwise, he looks like the Gibraltar many fans know and love.
Notably, this led to many comments as to how this should eventually make it intoApex Legendsas a Gibraltar skin, and that sounds incredible too. It’s not so far off that no one would know it was Gibraltar, and it adds a nice, newTitanfalldimension to the game. Of course, that feels unlikely at this point, but it does pose another interesting question.
If Gibraltar has concept art in pilot form, then at least every legend from the beginning of the game does too. Others, like Loba, still may have one; it depends how far aheadRespawn was looking atApex Legendscharacters. Nonetheless, many other characters would likely look inspired with a pilot-style helmet too, but it’s uncertain if a Pilot event, where these could be added, is something Respawn/EA are interested in.
Apex Legendsis available now on PC, PS4, Switch, and Xbox One. Mobile is available in some regions; PS5 and Xbox Series X versions are in development.
