Summary
WithAttack on Titanending in 2023, the highly praised anime and manga have enormously impacted pop culture due to theirhigh levels of narrative, world-building, animation, and characters. From the start ofAttack on Titanto its conclusion, theScout Regimenthas played a massive role in gaining knowledge and power for the island of Paradis.
Although much of the scouts' success can be attributed to members such as Eren Yeager, Armin Arlert, and Hanji Zoe, other scouts significantly impacted the story’s events. Several scouts have contributed to the regiment’s success, with many even being considered underrated despite herculean accomplishments in the field.
7Keith Shadis
Former Scout Regiment Leader
Keith Shadiswas the Scout Regiment leader before Erwin Smith took the scouts to new heights. To be selected as Scout Regiment leader requires many abilities and skills, which Shadis possessed in spades. Shadis' period of being the leader was briefly shown to be a struggle, as Shadis failed to succeed, leading to the slow integration of Erwin becoming the scout’s next leader. After quitting the scouts, Shadis taught cadets in the military, including Eren, Mikasa, and Armin.
Despite his failings as a leader, Shadis proves his worth to the cause as he helps the remaining scoutsescape Paradis and the Jaegerists. When Shadis and Theo Magath blow up the remaining ship, they both die in the process in order to save the world.
6Miche Zacharius
One Of The Scout Regiment’s Deadliest
Out of all the scouts closest to Levi’s skill level, onlyMicheand Mikasa even come close, with Miche having an impressive resume to boot. Miche is one of the scout members who captured Levi and his crew in the Underground, showing Miche’s impeccable abilities. Miche’s talents even go as far as being able to track Titans by smell, an unusual and valuable skill for a scout member.
Despite being an extremely skilled scout, Michefalls victim to the Beast Titan, Zeke Yeager. Miche is eventually eaten alive by Titans due to his legs being crushed by Zeke, leaving him immobilized.
5Connie Springer
Ever-Present Throughout Events
AlthoughConniemay not be the sharpest scout, he provides a level of bravery and loyalty many in the regiment have never accomplished. Being cadets alongside Eren, Mikasa, Reiner, and Armin pushed Connie to prove himself even in the shadow of his more explosive and flashy comrades. Connie has been ever-present at all the series' major events against the Titans and Marley, showing courage and impressive combat skills to outlive many throughout the story.
Connie is highly driven due to his mother beingleft stranded as an abnormal Titan in his village, with Connie aiming to try and save her from her Titan form.
4Sasha Braus
The Food-Obsessed Scout
Sasha Brausis one of the core scout members surrounding Eren, with Sasha being a friendly personality as well as an accomplished warrior. Thebrown-haired farm girl has made a name for herselfdue to her intense personality surrounding her love of food, with Sasha often being caught red-handed stealing food from her comrades.
Sasha’s bravery knows no bounds as she helps save a young girl named Kaya from a village attacked by Titans. Her heroism eventually leads to Kaya being orphaned by Sasha’s family, with Kaya idolizing her savior. Despite Sasha’s tragic end, her legacy and friendship with her comrades make her one of the most underappreciated scouts.
3Jean Kirstein
Brash And Bold
Throughoutthe events ofAttack on Titan,Jeanhas become one of the bravest scouts despite still having a sense of childishness in his actions. The loudmouth scout has grown from cowardly beginnings to one of the most reliable and influential scouts. Despite Jean’s disagreements with Eren, he is among many who stand up for Eren when he first discovers his powers.
Even when Eren turns on his closest comrades, Jean still acknowledges his duty as a scout as he and many of Eren’s friends attempt to stop him from destroying the world.
2Historia Reiss
From Shy Scout To Queen
Formerly known as Krista,Historiahas endured a rags-to-riches story throughoutAttack on Titan. Joining the cadets was the only option for her to hide from her troubled and dark past involving being heir to the Eldian throne. When Historia joins the scouts, she develops a strong relationship with fellow scout member Ymir, with Ymir later being revealed to be a Titan. Historia’s relationship with Ymir helped develop her character, as she became more confident in her actions than her former self, who often lacked a voice.
Historia’s crowning achievement as a scout came when she delivered the decisive blow to her father’s Titan form, which threatened to compromise Wall Sina. After Historia’s feat, she is proclaimed Queen of Paradis, leaving her life as a scout behind. Despite her newfound power, Historia still harbors many scout traits,including being scared of Captain Levi, despite her outrankingof the captain.
1Marlowe Freudenberg
From Military Police To Scout
Despite his lack of screen time,Marlowewas one of the most upstanding characters inAttack on Titan. Marlowe is introduced as a member of the Military Police, although, after joining, he realizes his ideals do not match up with how the Military Police operate. When Marlowe spots a pair of Military Police members selling valuable equipment, he calls the pair out for their actions. Despite Marlowe’s eye for lousy behavior, he suffers at the hands of his superiors as he soon realizes the corruption that exists among the Military Police.
Soon after having an incident with Jean, Marlowe eventually transfers to the scouts. Marlowe suffers a devastating fateas he and the other rookie scouts are condemned to slaughterby Erwin, who leads them to their deaths in a heroic stand against the Beast Titan. Marlowe plays a crucial role in reassuring his comrades, even though he recognizes his impending doom.
