Electronic Arts is getting ready to launchBattlefield 2042next month, and new information about the FPS continues to be drip-fed. One recently revealed detail givesBattlefieldfans some personal details about the Specialists known as Emma “Sundance” Rosier.
According to the Lead Community Manager Adam Freeman, theBattlefield 2042Specialist Sundance is non-binary and uses they/them pronouns. The announcement that Sundance is non-binary followed several inquiries about their gender based on the they/them pronouns that DICE was using. The Specialists ofBattlefield 2042already show racial diversity, and it looks like DICE and EA are ensuring that there’s gender diversity as well.

Ten specialists are coming toBattlefield 2042at launch and players will likely learn more about their backgrounds before the release of the next title in the popular FPS series. DICE and EA recently revealed some detailsaboutBattlefield 2042’s Specialists, with Sundance having a wingsuit and smart explosives. The wingsuit allows players to glide through the sky after jumping from a high point. The smart explosives target enemy vehicles once thrown in order to do significant damage to ATVs, armored tanks, trucks, and more.
Battlefield 2042open beta players only had access to the four Specialists that reflectedBattlefield’s traditional classes. The Medic inBattlefield 2042is known as Maria Falck, the Recon Specialist is called Navin Rao, the Engineer Specialist’s name is Pyotr Guskovsky, and finally, the Assault Specialist is called Santiago Espinoza. WhileBattlefield 2042open beta criticstook some issues with these Specialists, DICE was quick to suggest that the full roster of ten Specialists will balance things a little better.
Sundance was among one of the Specialists that DICE recently revealed as the rest ofBattlefield 2042’s roster at launch. Kimble Graves is a returningBattlefieldcharacter who specializes in fortifications, Webster Mackay will nimbly climb tall structures with his grappling hook, Constantin Anghel quickly resupplies his allies, andJi-soo Paik is aBattlefield 2042Specialistwith a new tool called the EMG-X Scanner that allows players to see enemies through walls. A successfulBattlefield 2042squad will have a mix of these specialists in order to synergize during the hard gunfights.
More games are becoming inclusive and it isn’t strange to see aBattlefield 2042Specialist that identifies as non-binary. Other titlesthat have embraced the non-binary community includeApex Legends,Borderlands 3, andCeleste. Sundance is the first non-binary character inBattlefieldhistory, setting a precedent that may continue with futureBattlefield 2042Specialists.
Battlefield 2042releases for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S on November 19.
