One ofBattlefield 2042’s launch maps is seeing some alterations as part of the much-improved game’s new 4.2.0 update.Battlefield 2042is currently in its fourth season and is considered by many to have been vastly improved from its original launch state.

With only seven maps,Battlefield 2042launched in late 2021 to very poor reception. Despite this, DICE’s support for the large-scale multiplayer shooter never wavered as it continued to add new maps, modes and content to the game throughout the following year including overhauls to many of the original launch maps. DICE even reworked the specialist system, which brought back proper class roles, a core component and a much beloved staple of theBattlefieldexperience. It’s due to this support by DICE and the class system rework in particular that the conversation surroundingBattlefield 2042has changed for the better in recent months.

HeadliningBattlefield 2042’s 4.2.0 updateis a rework to the Discarded launch map. The industrial map is home to a massive graveyard of several large disheveled ships as well as a flooded village that players fight for control over. Part of the rework will see the addition of more control flags to the map as well as the relocation of some existing flags.

Three main areas of the Discarded map will see improvements. A new flag-bearing Salvage Yard area will replace a formerly empty field to the northwest which will provide players on foot more cover against the danger of enemy vehicles.Battlefield 2042’s launch maps have been criticized by players for having too many open areas with too little cover, it looks like DICE is addressing that issue here. To help combat this further, DICE is nudging the flag at the Antenna area north, closer to the Flooded Village. The patch notes express that this change along with added structures will help better bridge the north and south areas of Discarded. Additionally, more cover has been added to the Dismantled Hull areato protect fromBattlefield 2042players snipingfrom the Colossus deck at the center of the map.

These changes to Discarded look to give players on foot better survivability against enemy vehicles and snipers while traversing long distances between flags. With the Discarded rework now out the door, thelong awaited rework toBattlefield 2042’s most visually distinct map Hourglassis likely on the way next with the game’s fifth season expected to begin in early June.

Battlefield 2042is available now on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S.
