Summary
Eiyuden Chronicle: Hundred Heroesis a modern old-school game that takes after 90s RPGs. There are a lot of mechanics in it, from recruiting heroes to tactical battles, but one of the biggest worth mentioning is the Rune system. When characters reach certain thresholds in their levels, they can unlock slots in their Rune grid to equip Runes into.
This can grant characters spells or boost stats in the game. It’s kind of like the Materia system inFinal Fantasy 7. That said, the Rune systeminEiyuden Chronicle: Hundred Heroesis much less intricate. For those looking to make the most of the early-game, there are several great Runes that players should be on the lookout for.

8Rune Of Fire
Offers Three Useful Fire Spells
The Rune of Fire can be found in the Abandoned Mine, which is one of the early game’s more confusing dungeons. Some early characters that can equip it include Iugo, Francesca, and Mellore. Of those three, Iugo is an interesting one since he lookslike a samurai, but Iugo can use some magic like a pro.
Equipping it will grant a character with three spells. Fireball will attack one enemy with fire magic, while Flame Wall will attack a row of enemies. The most powerful attack available via the Rune of Fire is called Fire God’s Sword, and it provides a hero with fire elemental attacks for their weapon and increases attack power.

7Rune Of Water
Offers Healing Capabilities & Magic Resistance
The Rune of Water can be found in a few places early on, but the easiest way to get this Rune is by recruiting the aforementioned Francesca. She can be found in a neighboring town to the west, Altverden Village, and all players need to do is talk to her.
She’sa healing mageby trade, but she can equip offensive-type elemental runes, too. That said, she comes equipped with the Rune of Water, which has three spells for players to make use of. Healing Drops will heal one ally, Water Veil will grant the party magic resistance for a few turns, and Recovery Wave will heal the party.

6Rune Of Wind
Provides Players With Reliable Healing And Strong Magic
The Rune of Wind can be found in a chest on the mountain pass that borders Werne Village to the west. Like all elemental Runes, this one comes with three spells.
Tearing Wind can be used to attack one enemy with a wind-based attack, and Healing Wind will heal a single hero for a moderate amount, more than Healing Drops. The best spell, though, is Wind God’s Breath. This spell can be used to attack all enemies, and the party will get healed slightly based on a fraction of the damage that is dealt.

5Rune Of Earth
Grants Access To A Useful Healing Spell & Some Strong Earth Magic
The Rune of Earth can also be found in the Abandoned Mine, which seems more fitting sincemines in gamesare full of rocks, dirt, and, of course, danger. While there are some offensive spells on offer here, there is a healing spell for players to make use of, too. Earth Heal, for example, will heal one ally in battle.
Rock Thrust focuses on one enemy and deals a moderate amount of damage, and it also breaks through armor. Finally, Earth Shaker can be used to attack all foes for a decent amount of Earth-based damage.

4Rune Of HP
A Great Rune That Grants Additional Health
That’s it for the early elemental Runes, but there are plenty of stat-based ones to consider, too. The Rune of HP, for example, can increase a character’s health by 15%, which can be hugely beneficial during the early stages of the game. Increasing HP ina turn-based RPGis often a core strategy for any good player, and the same can be said forEiyuden Chronicle: Hundred Heroes.
Rune of HP can be purchased in Daphan Village later inEiyuden Chronicle: Hundred Heroes, but players may get lucky and get it in a drop sooner. Nowa or Garr are probably the only two good characters that can equip it around the early hours of the game.

3Rune Of Power
Allows Players To Hit Enemies Harder
The Rune of Power will increase strength by 5%, which in turn results in characters hitting harder. This can affect physical specials for characters with non-elemental skills, too. Again, this is a great equip for Nowa or Garr, who are two of the strongest physical fighters at the beginning of the game. It makes the most sense for Garr, however, since he isa hulking werewolf-like creature.
The Rune of Power can be found in a lot of Rune shops, such as the one in Eltisweiss. The boost it offers may not be as good as the Rune of HP’s 15%, but 5% is still better than nothing.

2Rune Of Magic
Makes Mages More Effective
The Rune of Magic is similar to the Rune of Power; it’s just better suited to mage characters. Francesca or Mellore would make the most sense here, as the 5% boost to magic that accompanies the Rune can help when using both offensive and defensive spells.
However, it’s going to take a big grind to unlock Rune slots where that strategy would become viable for those two female heroes. Still, it’s a tactic that players should keep in mind for later. The Rune of Magic can be purchased in Eltisweiss and most other Rune shops, too.

1Rune Of Poison Resistance
Decreases The Likelihood Of Becoming Poisoned
The Rune of Poison Resistance is a great example of a defensive-based Rune that players should keep in mind for specific bosses or areas. This one in particular increases the likelihood that a character won’t receive the Poison status effect by 30%. One early area where heroes can catch this status effect is in the Abandoned Mine, and having access to the Rune of Poison Resistance can make things a lot easier here.
Runes of this nature can protect against all sorts of status effects and elemental damage, so they are great to have on hand or in storage. There are even Runes that lessen the threat of physical-based attacks, but those looking to avoid having their health slowly chipped away by a dangerous status effect would do well to acquire the Rune of Poison Resistance early on.
