A new job listing posted byBioShock 4developer Cloud Chamber has confirmed that the game will keep one gameplay feature that it is known for. 2K Gamesconfirmed the development of a newBioShockgameback in December 2019, also revealing that Cloud Chamber would be taking over from former developer Irrational Games after it shut down.
In a post on LinkedIn, Cloud Chamber has put out the call for a senior game designer. This job listing provides fans with one important piece of information about what they can expect fromBioShock 4as Cloud Chamber would like the designer to be “responsible for the development of player character core mechanics, controls and first-person camera.” The designer should also be “excited to work closely with engineering, animation, modeling, and level design departments” and has worked on two or more successful AAA titles.

It may seem like a small thing thatBioShock 4’s first-person camera has been confirmed, but it is something that fans have been concerned about since 2K Games announced the new title. FormerBioShockgame director Ken Levine is working on an immersive simat Ghost Story Games and it’s unclear how many formerBioShockdevelopers are makingBioShock 4. Fans have seen much stranger things than a game shifting character viewpoints after a series has moved to a new development team.
The gaming community has also shown itself to be sensitive when it comes to the protagonist’s viewpoint. Some were incredibly upset when CD Projekt RED confirmed thatCyberpunk 2077will have a first-person perspectiveand not a third-person viewpoint, as many had expected.
KeepingBioShock 4as an FPS will also allow players to feel much closer to its world. Other Cloud Chamber job listings haveteased a “rich and dynamic” world forBioShock 4and great gameplay moments that sit well next to the game’s story. These things could be offered with a third-person viewpoint, but fans will likely enjoy it more getting to see them through the protagonist’s eyes.
If Cloud Chamber is now hiring for theseBioShock 4development roles, fans will likely be waiting a long time to play. Reports had suggested thatBioShock 4has been in development for yearsbut if Cloud Chamber is taking a slower and more careful approach, this could hold the release date back.
Take-Two has also warned fans that the newBioShockgame could be in development for several more years. That’s disappointing for fans to hear but if it means that Cloud Chamber can create something that fans of the series will love, few will be upset.
A newBioShockgame is in development but a release date and platforms have not been confirmed.
