Summary

During an Ask Me Anything segment, Sledgehammer Games developers provide updates on upcomingCall of Duty: Modern Warfare 3content including the return of the fan favorite Shipment map. At launch, multiplayer maps seemed to be a divisive element for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 asSledgehammer Games confirmed that the launch experience would ship with 16 maps, all taken from the 2009 releaseModern Warfare 2. However, the maps themselves were touched up and remastered for this new title, though there were plenty of fans disappointed by the fact that there wouldn’t be any new maps right away.

However, Sledgehammer is about to correct that with the upcoming arrival ofSeason 1 inCall of Duty: Modern Warfare 3. A recent tease revealed some of the new content coming to the game, including the return of the 2v2 Gunfight multiplayer mode. The initial update is also getting an influx of brand-new 6v6 maps including Meat, Greece, and Rio for the multiplayer portion of the game while Gunfight is also getting a dedicated map called Training Facility. However, that doesn’t appear to be the end of it as Sledgehammer Games also confirmed the return of another fan favorite map.

Over on theCall of Duty: Modern Warfare 3subReddit, the official Sledgehammer Games account took questions and feedback from the community. One common topic centered on content and what the team planned to add in the coming months including bringing back other popular and old school maps like Carnival, Storm, or Fuel. While the studio doesn’t have any plans to return those to the current game, the account did reveal that seasonal updates will likely be made up of all new maps, though it also let slip that Shipment would also be coming back sometime in the near future as well.

The announcement naturally set off calls for a Shipment 24/7 gameplay mode, something that seems highly likely considering the historyShipment has with theCall of Dutyfranchiseas a whole. Others expressed disappointment that popular maps like Storm likely aren;t going to be making their return in a similar way to the currentModern Warfare 3maps have like Terminal.

Alongside upcoming map reveals, Sledgehammer also provided a bit of insight into upcomingModern Warfare 3changes including a new test of non-disbanded lobbies. The ideal behind this test is to see how the game performs as a whole, with a bigger rollout planned if things go well. Fans have been requesting non-disbanding lobbies to help keep players together, removing the need to enter matchmaking again after each match is completed. It’s a classic feature that was strangely removed with the 2019 release of Modern Warfare.
