Infinity Ward has been pretty busy trying to keepCall of Duty: Modern Warfare’s players happy. That has proven to be a challenge going into its newest season, which began on Tuesday, with many feeling that the new additions toSeason 2, like its guns, aren’t as good as Season 1’s. That said, the latest update has improved other things, some of which might fly under the radar for most players.

Although Infinity Ward has listed the major additions and fixes that were added this week via the 1.14 update, it looks like not everything was listed inSeason 2’s patch notes. Players are starting to notice that other parts of the game are working differently now, and it appears that one of these secret changes has improved how its thermal scopes work.

Not long after the game launched back in October, Infinity WardpatchedModern Warfare’s thermalsto let players see opponents through smoke, but it could still be tricky at times to make out an enemy player’s heat signature through thicker smoke. According to Reddit user MrNobodyX3, however, the 1.14 update has cut down on this by making the outline of a player’s body heat more defined, resulting in a much clearer image to track.

On top of that, the 1.14 update has also made thermals more versatile than they were before. MrNobodyX3 illustrated this by sharing captured screenshots comparing the various changes that have been made to thermals. What’s notable is that these were taken onShoot House, a brightly-lit map that would have rendered thermals useless in previous versions, but here they are being used as intended in spite of that. This means thermals are now a viable scope option on every map.

Interestingly, this improvement has also led to a seemingly indirect buff forCall of Duty: Modern Warfare’s Cold-Blooded perk, which protects players from thermals. As MrNobodyX3’s comparison image shows, the thermal-resistant effect has been increased considerably, with enemy players who have it equipped being pretty much invisible when viewed through a thermal scope.

With these changes, it’s possible that players will be more compelled to incorporate thermals into theirModern Warfareloadoutsmore often from here on. As for whether or not the 1.14 update has other secret improvements for players to discover, only time will tell.
