Call of Duty Shows Off Space Marines and Warhammer 40,000 Cosmetics
The latest game to feel the reach of the Imperium isCall of Duty. As promised earlier whenActivision officially confirmed variousCall of Dutycrossover packs, players ofModern Warfare 3andWarzonewill get the chance to dress up as members of the Space Marines and otherWarhammer 40,000characters. A new trailer shows off the cosmetics in action, covering new looks for characters, weapons, and actions like takedowns.
The trailer opens by featuringCall of Duty Modern Warfare 3characters posed in a battle scene and framed in the “tilt shift” fashion to make them look like classicWarhammer 40,000miniatures. The figures then get into motion, showing off costumes inspired by three major Imperium factions:The Space Marines of the Adeptus Astartes, soldiers of the Astra Militarum (also called the Imperial Guard), and the Adepta Sororitas, or Sisters of Battle.
There’s also a specificity to the looks shown in the trailer, with costumes and weapon customizations evoking specific organizations in theWarhammer 40,000lore. The cosmetics based onSpace Marines feature armor from the Ultramarines and Blood Angelschapters, including Juggernaut Skins that look almost exactly like Primaris Space Marines, dressed in their power armor. A skin for the Soulrender sword turns it into an Astartes Chainsword, while the Astra Militarum skins evoke the classic Cadian Guard uniforms.
Despite being somewhat incongruous withCall of Duty’smodern military aesthetic sense, there’s something apropos about the thought of aWarhammer 40,000crossover bringing the grim darkness of the far future (where there is only war) toCall of Duty’s grim darkness of the present day (where there is also only war). Fans of both may well get a charge out of the thought of having modern-day soldiers fighting it out against the caricatured warriors of the year 40,000.
