Due to data mining inBlack Ops Cold War,it seemsCall of Duty: Vanguardis out there a little earlier than intended. While the reveal is supposedly slated for August 19, fans have seenCall of Duty: Vanguard’s box art, ultimate edition, and more leakonline. Among these more concrete rumors also came a small flood of leaker information, a lot of which seems corroborated by the datamined images.
Notably, one rumor suggests thatCall of Duty: Vanguardwill explore both WW2 theaters of war: The Pacific and The European. While the former doesn’t have any more details, one reliable leaker, Tom Henderson, says the game takes place after the Nazi defeat in WW2. Apparently, the Gestapo are trying to reclaim Nazi rights, with the Gestapo chief serving as the main villain. The box art seemingly supports this rumor, as guns from both theaters of war appear in it, but that’s not all.

Call of Duty: Vanguard - A Classic Experience
Similar rumors suggest thatCall of Duty: Vanguardwill deliver a four-player co-op campaign, which too seems corroborated by the inclusion of four protagonists on the box art. It’s likely that this is the “Vanguard,” tasked with something that could see them travel both theaters of war. Either way, while this should be taken with a grain of salt as all rumors, it’s a big trump card if so. As it stands, theCall of Dutyexperience is rather defined. Because the popularbattle royale genre is captured inCall of Duty: Warzone, the game of the year can deliver a more classic experience.
While it remains to be seen, a four-player co-op campaign could just be the leading man of a zombies substitute and self-contained multiplayer (which, itself, sounds huge). Sure, the thing to keep in mind with shooters is that its main audience and appeal is to multiplayer, butCall of Dutyhas that down to a science.Vanguardoffering a solidCall of Dutycampaign, let alone potentially co-op in it, is a big step forward. It could be a bit more in-depth thanBlack Ops Cold War’s campaign, but it does sound like it could be. This may not be the main draw for everyone, but there’s little doubt some fans want a strong campaign with bells and whistles. Everything else is supplemental. As such, for these players,Call of Duty: Vanguardhas the upper hand.

Battlefield 2042 - A Definitive Multiplayer Experience
Of course, it should be noted that it’s a small number of FPS players who care more about the campaign than the multiplayer.Battlefield 2042, with that in mind, is targeting the latter with more tricks and whistles than may seem believable. Alongside its standard multiplayer features,Battlefield Portal is a community and player-oriented sandboxaimed at creativity, and there’s another feature called Hazard Zone that has yet to be revealed. InBattlefield 2042, there is a complete and potentially definitive multiplayer experience.
Call of Dutyaccomplishes this too, but it’s spread between the game of the year andCall of Duty: Warzone. The battle royale of the latter helps fill that niche, allowing the main game to explore what it wants (if with Warzone in mind). It’ll be interesting to see howCall of Duty: Vanguardtackles its WW2 setting, and while the competition could go either way or engage in a solid stalemate where all players win, campaign lovers may get to see a fictional WW2 with their buddies. It’s good to know that, no matter how small that portion of the community is, it doesn’t seem theCall of Dutyexperience intends to leave anyone out.
Call of Duty: Vanguardis expected to be revealed on August 19.
