Call of Duty: WarzoneSeason 4 is rapidly approaching, and it will likely add some of the best guns the game has yet seen. Even so, there are some tried and true weapons that have done good work inWarzoneand regularModern Warfareplaylists since day one. Whether the Galil and the Vector will be able to surpass the likes of the M4A1 or the MP5 remains to be seen, but even if they don’t they will certainly face stiff competition from some of the slightly less ubiquitous weapons. The FN SCAR 17 is one such gun. It doesn’t have nearly the popularity of other weapons, but with the right setup, it can play a pivotal role in combat.

The FN SCAR 17 is one of the most underrated weapons inWarzone, but its limited popularity is mostly due to its poor performance before it was buffed and a lack of general knowledge about how to wring out its maximum performance. The SCAR is remarkably versatile, but its best setups are not suited for all-around balanced performance. Unlike some of its more popular counterparts, the SCAR requires a certain playstyle in order to excel in a few very specific roles. In team play, or even in solos, the right setup and strategies can make the SCAR into a real beast that will carry its user to victory.

Best FN SCAR 17 Attachments for Warzone

The list of the best attachments for the SCAR looks very similar to the same list for other ARs, but there are a few oddities that set it apart and contribute to its unique characteristics. In future seasons, the addition of more attachments andcustomization optionswould do a lot to freshen up the game and breathe new life into old weapons that players have already maxed out with optimal setups. For now though, range, ammo capacity, and recoil control are are the most important characteristics to optimize forWarzone, while just a bit of mobility can go a long way in a pinch.

The Monolithic suppressor remains possibly the best attachment for almost any gun inWarzonebecause of its added range and very useful stealth capabilities. The SCAR has two long barrel options, a 20.0" and a 17.2", both of which push its range out and improve recoil. It also has a CQC barrel, but it won’t do much good inWarzone. For other ARs, extended magazines are extremely important because they can push ammo counts up to 50 or 60 shots before needing a reload, giving players the ability tomow down multiple enemy squad membersin quick succession. The SCAR, however, can only go up to either 25- or 30-round magazines, with a standard size of 20. This lower ammo count is perhaps the SCAR’s greatest weakness.

The Commando foregrip remains a great option for improving handling without lowering ADS speed, but the bipod can help make the SCAR extremely accurate when crouched. The FSS Close Quarters stock is the best stock option since it improves ADS speed, while Stippled grip tape does the same. Sights are totally up to preference, while lasers should typically beavoided inWarzone. With large magazines available, the Sleight of Hand perk is usually unnecessary, but the SCAR has slow enough reloads to make it a very viable addition.

Best FN SCAR 17 Setups for Warzone

With small ammunition counts, slow reloads, and relatively sluggish handling, it seems like picking the SCAR over any other AR would be a terrible idea. Even with a slight buff to its handling speed, the SCAR falls behind its competitors in a lot of major ways. The biggest strength of the SCAR, though, is its 7.62 caliber ammunition that does phenomenal damage, combined with its excellent recoil control. TheAK-47has the same high caliber ammo with larger magazines, but its controllability is abysmal compared to the SCAR. Thinking of the SCAR more as an automatic DMR than a slow AR is the first key to unlocking its potential.

The best all-around build for the SCAR would include a hybrid optic, a Monolithic suppressor, the 20.0" barrel, 30-round magazines, and the FSS Close Quarters stock to balance out the slower ADS times from the other attachments. That build doesn’t max out the SCAR’s potential as a long-range damage dealer though. Swapping out the 30-round magazines for a bipod will make the SCAR deadly accurate when its user is crouched or prone, allowing it to take onDMRs or sniperswith relative ease. While it might not be able to take out a wave of enemies without a reload, an accurate shooter with a SCAR can be the single-target damage dealer of the squad while other members make up for its downsides.

The SCAR has some of thebest DPS in the game, so more balanced builds can allow it to compete in close quarters as well as long-range. A good optic, Monolithic suppressor, 17.2" barrel, 25-round mags, and Close Quarters stock make for the most balanced build. A lightweight suppressor, standard magazines, and bipod or Commando foregrip will also provide a balanced SCAR that still maintains respectable accuracy.
