The focus of theSid Meier’s Civilizationseries may be on historical leaders, but that does not mean Firaxis cannot play around with the mythological world as well.Sid Meier’s Civilization 7is officially on the way, and the studio will likely be looking for ways to reinvent the franchise. Every single entry tends to be different from the last, andCiv 7could be Firaxis chance to break its own franchise template.
TheSid Meier’s Civilizationseries has always played around with the concept of religion and has even made it one of the core victories.Civ 7could take the concept to an entirely new level by actually delving into myths and legends. While the base game should still focus on the classicCivilizationstructure, the DLC could be filled with things that the franchise has never seen before. It could be likeFiraxis' version ofAge of Mythologyand may be exactly what the game needs to stand out from the crowd.

Civilization 6 Already Played Around With Myths
Exploring myths throughSid Meier’s CivilizationDLC would not really be unheard of. Firaxis has added a couple of interesting concepts toSid Meier’s Civilization 6through its many DLC packs that have taken the game away from its core concept. The studio not only introduced a battle royale mode called Red Death, but it also added a slew of optionalgame modes inCivilization 6through its New Frontier Pass that really shook the game up.
One of the first optional game modes that the New Frontier Pass added toSid Meier’s Civilization 6was the Secret Societies mode. This added multiple new secret societies that players could commit to that all offered various bonuses. While some of these secret societies had a basis in reality, one of the societies added avampire unit inCivilization 6. The inclusion of vampires was a major departure from the core concept, and Firaxis did not stop there.

The New Frontier Pass would also addthe Heroes and Legends game mode inCivilization 6. This new game mode added mythological heroes from throughout the world. It added 12 different heroes to the game, including Hercules, King Arthur, Beowulf, and Maui. Not willing to settle with just adding mythological heroes, Firaxis also added zombies in the Zombie Defense mode. These game modes took the game past its core concept, andSid Meier’s Civilization 7could take it a step further.
Civilization 7 Should Take Myths and Legends to the Next Level
Firaxis played around with mythological beings and fictional scenarios through the New Frontier Pass, but now it is time to expand the concept. While the focus ofSid Meier’s Civilization 7’s gameplayshould still be on historical leaders and progressing through history, the DLC could include even more myths and legends. Entire expansion packs could be devoted to the premise, and it could lead to some fun uniqueCivilizationshenanigans.
There are many different mythological settings that Firaxis could explore through DLC. It could craft a DLC around the concept of Atlantis and let players construct their own underwater cities akin toBeyond Earth’sRising Tide DLC, or it could introduce even more mythological heroes for players to control. DLC could also expand the concept of religion by actually introducing deities, filling the world with legendary creatures to kill, and even introducing a fictional civilization based on Asgard or Olympus.
There are a lot of directions Firaxis could take the nextSid Meier’s Civilization, and it will likely continue to play around with the concept of myths. There is a lot of potential there for some wild scenarios, and it could lead to a very unique Sid Meier’s game. If it does not detract from the coreCivilizationconcept, then it may be exactly what Firaxis needs to reinvent the series once again.
