Summary

According to a new leak, classicLucasArtspoint-and-click adventure games likeGrim Fandango,Full Throttle, andDay of the Tentaclecould be coming to the PlayStation 5. WhileLucasArtsis mainly known for the manyStar Warsvideo games of old, the studio was also a pioneer when it came to story and puzzle-based PC adventure games during the ’90s. From theCasablanca-inspired mystery ofGrim Fandangoto the satirical cross-country adventure ofSam and Max: Hit the Road, LucasArts’ assortment of old-school point-and-click titles are still fondly remembered to this day for their clever writing, challenging puzzles, and unforgettable characters.

Some of the standouts amongLucasArts’ library of 90s titlesincludeDay of the Tentacle, a follow-up to the 1987 graphic adventure gameManiac Mansionthat features three playable protagonists who travel across different time periods to thwart the plans of an evil mutant tentacle. 1995’sFull Throttleput players behind the wheel as biker gang leader Ben and utilized an all-star cast of voice actors like Roy Conrad, Mark Hamill, and Kath Soucie. Now theseclassic LucasArts point-and-click adventure gamescould be coming to the PlayStation 5, at least if a new report fromPlayStation Lifestyleis to be believed.Day of the Tentacle,Grim Fandango, andFull Throttlewere recently listed for the PS5 on the Taiwan ratings board, as spotted and shared by Gematsu on Twitter earlier this week. The leak in question also mentions the PlayStation 4, but there have already been remastered versions of the three games on that console.

Day of the Tentacle, Grim Fandango, And Full Throttle Could Come To PS5

Indeed, all three of these old LucasArts titles have previously been remastered and re-released on various consoles for later generations to enjoy, either individually or as part of a collection like theDouble Fine Humble Bundle in 2020.Day of the Tentaclewas updated with new graphics in 2016, about a year afterGrim Fandangowas reintroduced to the masses with its own remaster. Likewise,Full Throttle Remasteredhit the road in 2017, and all three of these updated titles came packed with bonus features like developer’s commentary and the ability to switch between the newer graphics and the original visuals with the press of a button.

Having new, native versions ofDay of the Tentacle,Grim Fandango, andFull Throttlefor the PlayStation 5 would be an interesting development, given that the previous re-releases weredeveloped by Double Fine– a studio that was comprised of the original LucasArts talent behind them and acquired by Microsoft in 2019. While this might have been a roadblock to getting these classic games on PlayStation hardware in the past, recent reports suggest that Xbox is bringing some of its first-party exclusives to its long-time rival. The classic LucasArts games could be part of that deal, assuming that the leaked listing from the Taiwan ratings board is correct.
