Summary
ControversialSteamgameGodushas been delisted after 10 years of early access.Godusfirst released in September 2013 following a successful Kickstarter campaign. Like with some ofdeveloper Peter Molyneux’s past games,Godusmade a lot of ambitious promises that it ultimately failed to deliver on.
Godusis a god gamethat initially was going to let a single person serve as its god, with the chosen individual also sharing in the game’s revenue. Those plans were scrapped andGodus' PC version was basically abandoned a few years after its early access launch. 22cans released mobile versions ofGodusthat have been received somewhat more favorably, and it also launched an RTS version ofGoduscalledGodus Wars, though that game has an Overwhelmingly Negative overall rating on Steam.

Steamusers were clearly not impressed byGodusorGodus Wars, and now neither game is available for purchase on Steam. 22cans confirmed thatGodusandGodus Warshas been removed from Steam “due to an upcoming technical change to Amazon Web Services.” Those that already ownGodusandGodus Warscan continue playing the games. 22cans added, “We sincerely appreciate the incredible support from our players over the past decade and extend our heartfelt thanks to you all.”
Considering how negative the reviews for the games were, it’s safe to say that most Steam users won’t be missingGodusorGodus Warsnow that they have been removed from Valve’s digital storefront. As far as 22cans go, its more recent efforts have earned mixed responses. The Trail: Frontier Challengehas Mostly Positive reviews on Steam, but the studio’s most recent release, business simulatorLegacy, has proven controversial for being ablockchain NFT game.

Peter Molyneux has played a key role in developing some great games as part of Bullfrog Productions and Lionhead Studios, includingPopulous,Dungeon Keeper,Black & White, and of course, theFableseries. Molyneux’s work since forming 22cans hasn’t been nearly as popular, but the studio is still going strong over a decade after its formation. While traditional gamers have largely rejected 22cans' games so far, it seems that they are finding an audience elsewhere.
That doesn’t mean 22cans is abandoning traditional games, though.Peter Molyneux’s next gameis aiming for release on PC and consoles, with Molyneux said to be taking on a more hands-on role. Little else has been revealed about the project, but hopefully it can avoid over-promising and under-delivering likeGodusdid.
