Sigur Studio has officially announcedCowboys and Rustlers, a top-down action-adventure game set in the Wild West and taking inspiration fromRed Dead Redemption. Since the launch ofRed Dead Redemptionin 2010,the outlaws of the Old Westhave become a popular subject for video games based on the lawless nature of the setting. Numerous games have taken inspiration from the cowboy story and Rockstar themselves would even launchRed Dead Redemption 2in 2018. Now, the makers of parody gameRustlerare back with a new Wild West-themed game.
Cowboys and Rustlerswouldn’t be the first time the developer has taken inspiration from Rockstar’s storied history of open-world games. As Jutsu Games, the developer would launchRustlerin 2021 as amedieval parody on theGrand Theft Autofranchise’s classic top-down formula from the early days of the series.Rustlerwould include plenty of humorous elements as part of the game, with everything from traffic lights for horses to the Monty Python franchise’s iconic “holy hand grenade.” Now,Cowboys and Rustlerstakes the chaotic comedic action to the Old West.

Cowboys and Rustlerswas officially announced as a top-down action-adventure game set in the Wild West of cowboys and outlaws. The game follows a cowboy and his cynical talking horse, Theodore, on a quest to complete the horse’s novel.Cowboys and Rustlerswill feature asimilar top-down style toRustlerwith its announcement trailer sharing the same kind of comedy, including a roller-skate ramp in an Old West Town alongside a poker mini-game. Sigur Studio did not confirm a release date forCowboys and Rustlers, with fans able to wishlist the game on Steam.
Cowboys and Rustlersis set to feature plenty of mini-games alongside the cowboy action with numerous side features for players to try out. The game will reportedly include classic cowboy staples like bank robberies and poker, withplayers shown to be able to cheatby drawing on the cards. The developer also promises plenty of unique features like lasso tricks in combat and even the ability for players to use gatling guns to their advantage in a fight.
Cowboys and Rustlers' announcement comes as many fans have wondered if and when Rockstar will return to its iconic cowboy franchise.Red Dead Redemption 2did not feature a major story expansion similar to the first game’sUndead NightmareDLC. Many fans have already begun to speculate abouta potentialRed Dead Redemption 3, though Rockstar has yet to officially confirm a new sequel to the Old West series.Cowboys and Rustlerswill look to be a comedic take on the cowboy action that captured the hearts ofRed Deadfans.
