ThePhantom LibertyDLC forCyberpunk 2077is just a few months away from release, but for those who are unsure if they’re going to purchase it or not, CD Projekt Red says the main game will still get some of the new features. Out of everything that was announced at therecent Xbox Games Showcase, Bethesda’sStarfieldwas the one on most people’s lips, but further details on the upcoming new content for CDPR’s dystopian sci-fi RPG was also something people were anticipating.

While it went down in gaming history as one of the most disastrous launches in recent memory,Cyberpunk 2077is now considered by many to beone of the best open-world RPGsin terms of scope and level of detail. The game has gone through a series of necessary changes and patches in order to distance itself from its December 2020 release. Luckily, things are much better now, and many fans are now looking forward to the upcoming expansion.

However, for those who don’t wish to purchase theCyberpunk 2077DLC, there will still be some benefits to reap in the base game. In a recent interview with VGC, creative director Pawel Sasko and quest designer Despoina Anetaki said the team has been reworking some of the “core main systems” of the game in preparation forPhantom Liberty. This includes overhauling the AI, skills trees, as well as implementing vehicle combat. Sasko says that some of these features and tweaks will be making their way to the main game as well, adding that the “core systems should be there.”

It was also very recently announced thatCyberpunk 2077’sPhantom Libertywill be launching on September 26. A new trailer gave a taste of things to come, showcasing the return of Johnny Silverhand and the addition of Solomon Reed, played by Idris Elba. During the Xbox Games Showcase, Keanu Reeves took to the stage to introduce the teaser, which confirmed the release date of the DLC, much to fans' delight.

Alongside this, there has been word that thefollow-up toCyberpunk 2077will go into early development in 2024, according to CDPR. This means that it will likely be a good few years until the sequel releases, but given that the studio is also working on a newWitchersaga and a remake of the firstWitchergame, it stands to reason that the Polish development team is going to be busy for a while.
