ADestiny 2fan has taken to Reddit recently to voice their opinions on how to improve the loot system forDestiny 2in order to make receiving new weapons more appealing. Bungie has even responded to the post, noting the poster’s growing displeasure with the game and the way that currently looks, while also looking to communicate with other players on how to best please the community.
While a majority of the post points out the ways that the poster, who goes by u/feelingRegal on Reddit, has been disappointed bythe recent seasons ofDestiny 2since Shadowkeep launched in 2019, it isn’t without suggestions for improvement. One of the poster’s most interesting suggestions comes in the form of a new way forDestiny 2to approach weapon drops and mods on weapons like Go Figure.

The suggestion seems to be based on the way other looter shooters, likeTheDivision 2andBorderlands 3, handle loot drops by including randomized attributes to add an extra layer onto the RNG for all guns. This would make receiving duplicates of loot for the 100th time feel less disappointing, as a repeated drop can still improve a players arsenal even when a player already has agreat gun with their preferred perks. For players that are in it for the grind, this could be a welcome way to keep the flurry of engrams the drop from completing missions and beating powerful enemies exciting.

The poster admits that this could cause problems with PVP, and suggests that it not be implemented in Crucible to the degree that it could be reworked into PVE. Similarly, other games have suffered from relying too heavily onmulti-layered RNG, likeBorderlands 3, so this could prove to be a double edged sword when it comes to easing the irritation of loot drops for some players. So, Bungie would have to be careful when implementing any more randomization into the game, as to not turn off players that prefer howDestiny 2’s loot system currently works.
RNG is an incredibly complex game mechanic that can make or break some games, depending on how the development team is able to implement drop rates and variant items. When the originalDestinydropped, Bungie was relatively new to creating a complex loot system, complete with randomized drops and guaranteed rewards. However, while there have been bumps on the road and somefan favorite loot systemsfalling to the wayside, Bungie has proven in the past that it is more than capable of striking that balance asDestinyandDestiny 2have evolved over the years.
Destiny 2is available now on PC, PS4, Stadia, and Xbox One.
