Bungie has officially announced the full selection of Artifact mods available to players in Season 20 ofDestiny 2, though there are some big changes being made to how, exactly, players can leverage them in moment-to-moment gameplay. Season 20, which is also known as the Season of Defiance, is coming out alongside theLightfallDLC, which means it’s going to inherit many of its big changes and additions, too.
As part of its marketing push for the launch of theLightfallDLC, Bungie confirmedthe titles of futureDestiny 2seasons, which was fairly unprecedented as the developer had previously kept its seasonal cards close to its chest. Now, less than a week ahead of the release ofLightfalland Season 20 itself, Bungie has provided yet another comprehensive summary of what the players ought to expect.

It’s a given thatDestiny 2is undergoing some very substantive changes with theLightfallDLC, but the seasonal content is undergoing a big shift as well. Bungie’s latest blog post specifically goes into detail on its new implementation of the Seasonal Artifact, a special item that’s used to provide players with unique mods that could be slotted into select pieces of gear. As of Season 20, however, the Seasonal Artifact is going to be entirely passive, with mods turned into permanently active perks, 12 of which can be turned on simultaneously at any given time.
All 25 of the new passive Artifact perks have been revealed as part of the new blog post, and thoughDestiny 2is getting harder onceLightfallhits, the new seasonal perks will be a huge quality-of-life improvement that should help players compete in endgame-tier content, as well as to more effectively handle Champion enemies. Anti-Champion perks include Anti-Barrier Sidearms and Pulse Rifles, Overload Bows and Automatics (submachine guns and auto rifles), as well as Unstoppable Scout Rifles.
Destiny 2: Lightfall’s numerous anti-Champion optionsgo beyond mere Artifact perks, however. The new blog has gone into further detail on how specific subclasses will be able to handle Champion enemies, too, and it appears that the new system will be remarkably flexible. For example, becoming Radiant gives players a way to nullify Barrier Champions, and any source of Radiance will work, no matter whether it came from a Hunter’s Acrobatic Dodge ability or a triggered Solar Super.
Not everything is milk and honey, however. While many believe thatDestiny 2should support multiple anti-Champion modson a single weapon,Lightfallisn’t introducing this quality-of-life tweak after all. The blog post has clarified that Exotics with innate anti-Champion capabilities won’t be affected by external sources of anti-Champion functionality, which is sure to limit buildcrafting to some extent.
Destiny 2is available now for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S. TheLightfallDLC launches on February 28.
