The 7.0.0.5 hotfix forDestiny 2has introduced a number of fixes and changes for the game, including a nerf to the Titan exotic gauntlets Synthoceps which has resulted in players dealing more damage with unpowered melees than glaives while using the exotic. This isn’t the first nerf thatDestiny 2’s community of Titan players have seen lately, with several other popular Titan exotic armor pieces receiving reductions in capability around the launch of the game’s latest expansion.

Hotfix 7.0.0.5 provides a long list of fixes, many of which have been eagerly anticipated by fans sincethe launch ofDestiny 2: Lightfall. The removal of the infamous invisibility bug which has been plaguing Crucible rosters in particular seemed to have been one of Bungie’s top priorities with this update, though several progression and ability-related bugs have also been fixed. Additionally, the developers have also made changes to several aspects of gameplay, seemingly in response to widespread player feedback. An increase in exotic drop rate from Legend lost sectors provides a slightly better chance of worthwhile rewards, and commendation score requirements for achieving higher Guardian ranks have also been massively reduced.

A less-expected change, however, was Bungie’s decision to drastically reduce the damage buff provided toglaives by the Titan exotic Synthocepsin both PvP and PvE. While the patch notes kept the specifics rather vague,Destiny 2fans quickly discovered the extent of these changes thanks to some testing done by players. One member of the community posted their findings on Reddit, sharing statistics which suggest that the Synthoceps bonus to glaive melee damage has been reduced to a mere 50%. Compared to the far more substantial 200% damage bonus to regular, uncharged melees while using Synthoceps, the player concluded that Titans would actually be better off simply putting their glaives away while using the exotic gauntlets.

Of course, this nerf has been greatly disappointing for fans looking to incorporate glaives into melee builds of their own. WithDestiny 2: Lightfallintroducing two brand new exotic glaives, along with another new seasonal legendary glaive brought along with the latest Season of Defiance, it certainly seems like an odd time for the developers to reduce the potential effectiveness of these weapons.

Titan players inDestiny 2have been quick to point out their discontent with this change, with many confused as to why Bungie seems to be discouraging the viability of melee-centric builds inDestiny 2’s several forms of endgame content. Many in the community have also pointed out that the recent nerfs to Titan exotics seem unfair when considering the widespread use of certain other exotics at the moment, though many remain suspicious that players may see further nerfs to certain items in the near future.
