Select streamers and content creators have been receiving a freeDiablo 4Collector’s Box as marketing ramps up before release. Some questions remain aboutDiablo 4and how Blizzard intends to monetize the game, but fans are cautiously optimistic, and collaborating with respected content creators is likely to reinforce that sentiment.
Much of the optimism was borne out of the recent beta tests forDiablo 4, which wereDiablo’s most successful betas ever. Beyond issues regarding balance and server stability, the feedback was overwhelmingly positive, with many citing the atmosphere and combat as two elements that Blizzard had dramatically improved upon sinceDiablo 3. Even more impressive is how the studio has responded to the beta, posting an in-depth list of changes that will be implemented intoDiablo 4thanks to player feedback. Blizzard seems intent on curating a relationship between players and itself that revolves around communication, and having content creators publish Collector’s Box openings so early is likely an attempt to further that goal.

In a video posted to his YouTube channel,Diablocontent creator wudijo unboxes theDiablo 4Collector’s Boxthat he received from Blizzard. Wudijo is joined by his nephew for the first minute of the video before the young boy darts off, more invested in his own toys than the monsters of Sanctuary. The theorycrafter and Maxroll contributor then takes viewers through the contents, which has been previously revealed to include aDiablo-themed candle, mousepad, and pin, as well as a cloth map of Sanctuary and two matted, fine art prints. Arguably the biggest selling point is the art book, which offers 300 pages of “frighteningly beautiful artwork.”
At $96 (shipping not included), theDiablo 4Collector’s Box is notably cheaper than traditional “Collector’s Editions,” but Blizzard made sure to note that a copy of the game is not included with this purchase, meaning that it is a product for the most dedicated of fans.The decision to omitDiablo 4from its own Collector’s Box, along with the fact that more expensive editions of the game offer valuable Early Access, has raised questions about how Blizzard intends to monetize the already full-priced release.
Details aboutDiablo 4’s monetization have been sparse relative to information disseminated that pertains to classes and loot. Fans are understandably on edgeafter the predatory nature ofDiablo Immortal. Some had hoped that a major, established IP entering the mobile gaming space could reign in egregious forms of monetization that have become normalized. ButDiablo Immortaldid little but solidify them as an industry standard. No matter what,Diablo 4is poised to be a monumental financial success, and fans hope the same will be said of Blizzard’s reputation after the dust settles.
