Blizzard has enabled Uniques in Helltide Chests once again, butDiablo 4players will no longer be able to target farm specific armor and weapon slots. The incident that occurred on July 6 inDiablo 4bestowed many players with Uber Uniques, the rarest and most powerful items in the game.Classes inDiablo 4such as the Barbarian or Sorcerer have no class-specific Unique Helms to speak of, which made many players target farm Helltide Chests in the hopes that they’d yield a Harlequin Crest at a favorable 0.5% drop rate.

Though the developers were quick todisable Uber Uniques inDiablo 4to prevent players from obtaining more Harlequin Crests, this meant that the six rarest Uniques were no longer dropping from any source. Patch 1.0.4 forDiablo 4was meant to make Helltide Chests more enticing to farm, but the way players optimized a path towards getting an Uber Unique wasn’t something Blizzard intended, even if it wasn’t that surprising in hindsight.

The solution to Uber Uniques dropping fromHelltide Chests inDiablo 4came in the form of a hotfix. Both Mystery Chests and targeted chests can now drop Uniques once again, but unlike its original iteration, the targeted chests draw from the entire item type pool – effectively removing the ability for players to target farm Uniques inDiablo 4.

Even when compared to the rarest items inPath of Exile, the Uber Uniques inDiablo 4are on a level of their own. As a result, the recent change has sparked a significant amount of controversy, as many fans feel that the loot grind inDiablo 4continues to be grossly over-tuned. Unlike its predecessor,Diablo 4puts a greater gameplay emphasis on the journey to obtain gear, as opposed to pushing higher levels of content using the assembled equipment sets. Many in the community already feel like the endgame inDiablo 4lacks direction, and it continues to be a major point of contention for fans.

Even though Uniques can no longer betarget farmed inDiablo 4through Helltide Chests, they will still be able to drop – making Helltides more valuable in the hierarchy of endgame content. Furthermore, Blizzard will not be rolling back the Uber Uniques, meaning that players who obtained them during the July 6 incident will get to keep their Harlequin Crests. While the itemization inDiablo 4could use some work, the new features coming in Season of the Malignant may help to make the grind more exciting.

Diablo 4is available for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
