TheDiablofranchise has always had a reputation for its dark and visceral storytelling, and that includes a host of fascinating characters. The tradition of seducing players with charming and charismatic villains, NPCs, and allies continues into the present day with the launch ofDiablo 4and a whole new cast of heroes and bad guys to love and hate.

Charisma means how likable a person is, but that doesn’t necessarily mean physically beautiful or appealing. Demons and angels are some of the most charismatic creatures of all, and this is a game about Hell, after all.

8Tyrael

The angel that was formerly the Archangel of Justice, and now the Aspect of Wisdom, not only is Tyrael one ofDiablo’smost charismatic characters, but he might be the only entity in either Heaven or Hell that recognizes the suffering in Sanctuary and cares about the fate of humanity.

It’s Tyrael’s sincerity that makes him the most appealing out ofany of the demonsor angels in the franchise. He’s equally despised by both sides, which means he must be doing something right, and many times he’s been the only thing standing between the innocent lives of Sanctuary and their total destruction.

7Rathma

One of the first Nephalem, a child of the demon Lilith and the angel Inarius, Rathma started a cult that would eventually take his name. He took the initiative when it came to the powers of Necromancy, becoming its first and most powerful practitioner, and used his charisma to draw many denizens of Sanctuary to his side.

Rathma was the person who used the lure of wealth and knowledge to trick three unfortunate travelers into taking part in a gory ritual that would bring his mother back into Sanctuary, from the Burning Hells where she had been banished. His charm would not be enough to save him from the wrath of Inarius for this transgression.

6Lilith

The Queen of the Succubi would know about charisma, seduction, and lust, and that happens to be oneof Lilith’s many titles. Her union with the angel Inarius created the Nephalem, and Sanctuary was their mutual creation as a place where they and their offspring could live in peace from the Eternal Conflict.

Unfortunately, the couple had a falling out over the future of their creations, and Inarius banished the Daughter of Hatred into the Burning Hells. Lilith is present in the demonic family tree for most of the franchise but doesn’t play a big role in the plot untilDiablo 4when the player has to pursue her across Sanctuary while trying to figure out her nefarious plans.

5Mephisto

Lilith inherited her deadly wiles from her equally seductive father, Mephisto, the Lord of Hatred. Unlike his brothers, Diablo and Baal, Mephisto prefers to use guile, lies, and manipulation to accomplish his goals.

The earlier games featured the aggressive and often explosive actions of his two more destructive and outspoken demons, but Mephisto made some interesting appearances inDiablo 4. He’s considerate enough to appear in animal instead of demon form most of the time.

4Deckard Cain

A character thatDiablofans knowfrom the very beginning of the franchise, Deckard Cain was a scholar, a storyteller, and an adventurer along with being the game’s most prominent narrative voice. The people of Sanctuary liked him as much as the player did, even if he had a rocky and often lonely personal life.

To those that were closest to him, Deckard Cain wasn’t all that charismatic, but to the players ofDiablo, he was the iconic face of the game along with its gruff and endearing voice. His legacy lives on even if he’s no longer a part of the games.

3Leah

The journal that takes up part of the narrative inDiablo 3was written by Leah, carrying on the legacy of her adopted uncle, Deckard Cain. She acts as a follower to the protagonist for a while, in which she learns to control more of the mysterious powers she has. Later, it’s revealed that her father is the demon lord Diablo, and he possesses her body.

Leah has a kind, likable, and even mild nature, and her charisma makes her end even more tragic. Those with sharp eyes would have seen hints and references to her ultimate fate up until the last moment, but at least the player got to share a part of her adventure.

2Imperius

If there is a god in this universe, it’s the only person that Imperius would have to answer to, or it might even be this shining archangel himself. He’s the Archangel of Valor, the greatest fighting entityto ever exist, and he seems to know that.

The problem is that this knowledge seems to go to his head and drives him to act impulsively, but that doesn’t make him any less charismatic as far as the angels or demons are concerned. He was closely aligned with Tyrael before the Archangel of Justice fell into Sanctuary.

1Lorath Nahr

A modern incarnation of theDiablonarrator after the loss of Deckard Cain in the plot ofDiablo 3, Lorath does well to fill the venerated scholar’s absence inDiablo 4. He’s a bit more flippant, with an attitude that resembles a cranky hermit as opposed to a dedicated scholar, but it’s stilla great way to tell a storyfor the new generation of the reformed Horadrim.

Lorath isn’t exactly the most charismatic character at first. He treats the main character to a venison dinner, but then grifts them out of the price of his polearm and ditches them in Kyovoshad to ride west. Despite his quirks, he’s the first NPC the player meets in the game that isn’t out to kill them or betray them eventually.
