Digimon Survivefeels like the definition of development hell, as it has been promised time and again, and yet delayed just as many times. Thus, the latest development comes across as no surprise, and at the very least, there’s a little bit ofnew information aboutDigimon Survive.

Digimon Survivewas announced in 2018 before being delayed year after year. It was delayed to 2019, 2021, and 2022. There’s no certain response thatDigimon Survivewill be delayed again, so it is still slated for 2022 as of this writing, but history seems to suggest it will.

AlthoughDigimon Surviveis supposed to release in 2022, that seems unlikely after the latest update at Digimon Con 2022. Producer Kazumasa Habu revealed thatDigimon Survivehas changed developers, with development being moved from Witchcraft to Hyde—with Hyde responsible for games likeRune Factory 5, Olympia Soiree, Code Realize, and Root Letter. This is important to note: Habu does not say thatDigimon Survive’sdevelopment restarts, like what happened withMetroid Prime 4, but that it requires a lot of “rework” and will take a little “longer.”

Alongside this, Habu revealed several newdetails, mechanics, and features forDigimon Survivethat may help appease fans. Players can control 10 units of Digimon in battle, while they use SP to evolve over time. New Digimon can be recruited, and there is some negotiation and social element to that. In all of this, players will be playing through a 12-chapter story where everything after Chapter 8 depends on the divided storyline.

It seemsDigimon Survivehas four endings, with those known being titled Morality, Harmony, and Rage. The final story route is not named, and in doing all of this, one route will take players about 40 hours to beat. Completing all routes, endgame content, and more pushes that into the 80-100 hour zone, according to Habu.

A few final comments include the 113 Digimon available in the game, which tracks with everything revealed thus far. There will be karma points influenced by dialogue anddigivolutions inDigimon Survive, and all evolutions will be impossible to get in one playthrough. There will also be New Game Plus, new dungeons and equipment in NG+, some voice acting, no multiplayer, and four difficulties: Very Easy, Easy, Normal, and Difficult.
