Rapper, songwriter, and streamer Doja Cat is known for posting seemingly-random and whimsical statements on Twitter. Her latest tweet was a low-resolutionFinal Fantasy 14character, hinting that the internet sensation has begun playing the critically-acclaimed MMORPG.
The tweet itself was a low-resolution screenshot of an elf-like elezen–one of the playable races inFinal Fantasy 14–on a close up of her face, but with no additional words or context whatsoever. Even more baffling, Doja Cat changed her profile picture to match the screenshot.

The elezen in question appears to be wearing starting gear, and appears to be in Gridania, one of thethree starting zones inFF14. While Doja Cat has yet to confirm it, she’s likely giving the game a shot, and the screenshot is of her in-game character. The low-resolution of the screenshot fits well with the eccentric nature of her internet persona.
Doja Cat is no stranger to video games, of course. She has a Twitch channel where she streams games, such asRed Dead Redemption 2, and a TikTok full of inside jokes and references, plenty of which are to gaming and other aspects of nerd culture. Even some of her songs have references to video games, including one with an explicitreference toFinal Fantasyitself.
Many fans ofFinal Fantasy 14and Doja Cat knew it was only a matter of time before she gave the MMORPG a try, and are thrilled to see it. There was already significant crossover between gamers and Doja Cat fans, so there was no surprise to see the excitement surrounding her cryptic tweet. In less than a day, it gathered over 40,000 likes and 1,300 comments, many of which were other players showing off their characters, asking whatFF14data center she was playing on, or begging her to let them run her through content.
SomeFinal Fantasy 14players are worried about what the attention of internet big shots like Doja Cat will do to the game.Final Fantasy 14has already had unprecedented success with a large influx of players flocking to the game because of the COVID-19 lockdowns, the rampant success of theShadowbringersexpansion, and the troubles surrounding its lead competitor,World of Warcraft. With 3.7 million followers, fans of Doja Cat could createanother wave of players inFinal Fantasy 14, which could stress the already-taxed servers to their limit. Regardless, only time will tell if Doja Cat has indeed gone back on her word in “Streets” when she said “NoFinal Fantasy.”
Final Fantasy 14is available now on PC, PS4, and PS5. TheEndwalkerexpansion launches on November 23.
