Bandai Namco has officially announced the release date for part one ofDragon Ball Z: Kakarot’sSeason Pass 2 expansion. Luckily, the company was once again generous with its announcement details of the DLC as it also released a lengthy action-packed trailer of the upcoming content.

Released in January 2020,Dragon Ball Z: Kakarotis an open-world RPG that follows Goku and his friends as players progress through four initial main storylines that expand on the lore of the popular anime. The game involves tasks like fishing, training, and combat to level up characters in order for players to proceed to each storyline. Subsequent DLC content that introduced new storylines has been added to the game. Since its release, it has received generally favorable reviews, especially on Steam, though with some criticism involving its lackluster RPG elements.

The latest trailer for the DLC is titled “Battle for Planet Vegeta,” and showcases Bardock fighting against Frieza Force Soldiers in a nearly 5-minute battle in space. Another key location in theDragon Ballprequel anime,Bardock: The Father of Goku, that the game is based on. Previously, fans were treated to aDragon Ball Z: Kakarottrailer teasing a battle on Planet Kanassa, which takes place early on in the anime prequel.

The game seems to be heavily inspired by its anime source, so hopefully, developer CyberConnect 2 will successfully convert it into a fan-favorite interactive story piece. The expansion is only one part of three upcoming stories. As of now, it is unknown what the other two parts will entail, leaving fans excited about what story could be adapted next. TheBardock - Alone Against FateDLCis expected to launch on January 13. Fortunately, it accompaniesDragon Ball Z: Kakarot’srelease on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series consoles.

A lot of the hype seems to rely on nostalgia around the game with similar interactive features that pull from the source material of the show with each DLC. Fans seem to like the open-world format and scenic art of the game as well as the challenging combat from enemies. A fair takeaway is that nostalgic fans of the anime and manga series will likely feel more rewarded withDragon Ball Z: Kakarot’s DLC content than those who are new to the franchise. The upcoming DLC adds more to the nostalgia of the game and appears to depend on extensive knowledge of the show. At the same time, it seems set up in a way that players who have experienced theDragon Ball Zgamesonly will enjoy the upcoming expansions as well. It’s only a matter of time before fans finally find out what Bandai Namco and CyberConnect 2 have up their sleeves next.

Dragon Ball Z: Kakarotis available now for PC, PS4, Switch, and Xbox One. It will release on PS5 and Xbox Series X/S in 2023.
