More news regardingDragon Quest 3 HD-2Dcould be revealed soon, according to series creator Yuji Horii.Dragon Questfans were stunned when last year, for the franchise’s 35th anniversary, five newDragon Questgames were announced alongside a new expansion for the Japan-only MMODragon Quest 10. Among those games were not only the next mainline game,Dragon Quest 12: The Flames of Fate, but alsoDragon Quest 3 HD-2D, a brand-new remake ofDragon Quest 3in the style of games likeOctopath Traveler.
Dragon Quest 3: The Seeds of Salvationfirst released on the Famicom in Japan in 1988 before arriving in North America asDragon Warrior 3on the NES later in 1992. The game is a turn-based JRPG, following in its footsteps of its predecessors, the first of which is often credited as the very first JRPG ever made.Dragon Quest 3introduced a day and night cycle while also being the most open and non-linear of the original NESDragon Questtitles.

Since the reveal ofDragon Quest 3 HD-2Din May 2021, little to no follow-up information has been released by Square Enix. Thankfully, Yuji Horii has revealed thatmore information forDragon Quest 3 HD-2Dis on the way. Speaking to Japanese gaming magazine Famitsu, the series game designer claimed “I can’t say much yet, but we might be able to deliver more news onDQ3soon. We’re grateful that people are putting big expectations onDQ3too”. Horii did not comment on whether more information forDragon Quest 12will also be coming.
Square Enix announcedDragon Quest 3 HD-2Dover a year and a half ago. Since then, the publisher has gone on to release two major console titles featuring the HD-2D art style in the form ofTriangle Strategyand theLive A Liveremake, while a mobile title based onOctopath Traveleralso released earlier this year. The publisher haseven announced a sequel toOctopath Traveler, which has a release date for February 2023. MeanwhileDragon Quest 3has not received any update. Needless to say, a new trailer is somewhat overdue.
Square Enix usually makes an appearance at Jump Festa, a Japanese convention held by Shonen Jump publisher Shueisha. Given thatDragon Questgames have had big blow-outs at these events in the past,and theDragon Questseries is already confirmed to have a presence at the show, it’s likely this news could arrive later this month at the event. Square Enix likely wants to make room for the release ofDragon Quest Treasureslater this week first.
