To kick off its second season, the award-winningDungeons and Dragonspodcast Dark Dice managed to land actor Jeff Goldblum in a lead role. Goldblum will be joined by four other players as he portrays his elven sorcerer Balmur in an audio-basedDungeons and Dragonscampaign.
Dark Dice differentiates itself from otherD&Dpodcasts with high production quality. Not only will the podcast boast names like Goldblum, but the campaign will feature a completely original soundtrack including an orchestra that uses medieval instruments and a choir singing in three different languages, including the fantasy languages Elvish and Infernal. ModernDungeons and Dragonsfans should be unsurprised by games in lavish settings, as a little over a month ago onecharity game ofD&Dwas held at Warwick Castle.

Another way in which Dark Dice stands out is its unique storytelling. The campaign will be split between two player-controlled groups, with one hunting the other for revenge. Just to throw another twist into the mix, Goldblum and his companions are going to be stalked by a being known as The Silent One, a doppelganger capable of stealing the face and voice of anyone it encounters. The campaign will begin airing on May 12 and is seemingly rife with intrigue, but Goldblum should be well-prepared to sniff out any traitors in his midst after previous experience inthe original Jurassic Park.
Dungeons and Dragonsis, by its nature, improvisation, meaning that while the team behind Dark Dice may have a plan in mind, the direction of the game is in the hands of the players. This means that Goldblum could potentially be more in the driver’s seat than he appears. He could change the entire outcome of the gameby casting one ofDungeons and Dragons' more useful spell, for example, or it could be revealed that Goldblum has been switched out for the doppelganger that is stalking the group. Fans will have to tune in to find out.
Regardless, like the forthcomingDungeons and Dragons: Dark Alliance, this newest season of the Dark Dice podcast could be theperfect exposure for tabletop RPG newcomers; a chance to experience the game at its fullest potential with talented actors and an immersive atmosphere. To this end, the Dark Dice podcast’s newest campaign, titled “The Long Marsh,” will be available for free.
