Supermassive’sUntil Dawnis mostly loved for its wildly engaging characters. So much thought has been put into the characters' backstories and personalities that players are extremely engaged and dedicated to their survival — which is surely the point of the game. Injecting some real emotional attachment, to make the character deaths all the more painful when a poor choice is made.

If the characters were part of aDungeons & Dragonscampaign, what would their moral alignments be?
11Hannah: Neutral Good
Players don’t get to see very much of Hannah. She appears in the prologue and — spoilers — is dead by the end of it.
(Or so it seems.)

But from what we see of her, she’s kind. Willing to break the rules, but ultimately good-hearted. This good nature combined with a willingness to break those rules seems to put her right in the middle of the ‘Good’ spectrum.
10Beth: Lawful Good
Players don’t get to see much of Beth either. As Hannah’s sister, she’s very much against the prank played on her and rushes after her, clearly angry with her friends. Although she may just be reacting this way because it’s Hannah, she seems to err on the side of Lawful Good — perhaps a rule follower, and someone just as kind-hearted as her sister.
9Josh: Sliding Chaotic Good/Neutral/Evil
Josh is hard to characterize. Players see very little of him, but are told he’s caring and loving — or was. Now he’s on a bad path, willing to terrorize his friends and even punch Ashley when necessary. Of course, he sees his cause as very just — he’s getting revenge on them for his sisters' disappearances — but he takes so much pleasure in it that although his initial traits given to players by the game wouldsuggest Chaotic Good, he slides all the way to Evil by the end.
8Sam: Neutral Good
Sam might just be one of the most likable characters in the game. Trying to do good by everyone, she’s a great friend who will go to bat for people when need be — like going to find Mike in the Sanitorium when he didn’t return. Ultimately, she may just be the most Neutral Good person around.
7Chris: Chaotic Good
On the Chaotic Good side of the spectrum is where Chris can be found. Sure, he can be a bit of a jerk when the consequences aren’t serious — he chases Josh and Sam in a mask to scare them, and seems to enjoy freaking out his friends — but he’s protective of Ashley when it comes down it.

Of course, the player can have himchoose to shoot Ashleyover himself which may have him sliding to a bit of a Chaotic Neutral. But most players don’t have the stomach to be that selfish.
6Ashley: True Neutral
Players who have Chris shoot himself might find Ashley to be Neutral or Lawful good. She seems selfless throughout the game and truly caring of her friends.

But despite begging him to shoot her, if Chris does, she turns extremely cold even though the gun only has blanks in it. Later, when Chris runs to the door being chased by a Wendigo, she will leave him to die.
Yikes.
5Mike: Chaotic Good
Mike seems like a bit of a jerk at the start of the game — pretty antagonistic, and definitely full of himself. But despite his nature of antagonizing people, sometimes deliberately and other times accidentally, he turns out to be a good guy who’s genuinely willing to go to bat for his friends. He risks his life multiple times for them, and no one can deny his good nature because of that.
4Matt: Lawful Neutral
Matt seems determined to do the right thing a lot but other times, when it suits him, he doesn’t — such as having the choice to antagonize Jess and Emily during a fight, to threaten Mike, and to save himself over Emily. He does seem to be a stickler for the rules though, which makes him a Lawful Neutral.
3Emily: True Neutral
Players will associate Emily with evil, because she’s simply not very nice. She’s exceedingly selfish and loves to place herself above anyone else in the room by putting them down — and she kind ofdoesborder on evil. But despite her mean nature, she’s not exactly a murderer, and she expresses regret in the credits for the way she treated Matt. She just about makes it into True Neutral.
2Jess: Chaotic Good
Poor Jess. Players don’t see her for most of the game because she’s dragged off by a Wendigo — and that’s if she doesn’t get her jaw ripped off first. She has an extremely playful nature, and often tries to antagonize Emily, making her chaotic — but she also seems sweet deep down, with some deep-rooted insecurities she can’t quite seem to shake.
