Developer Techland’s anticipatedDying Light 2was originally slated for release in spring 2020, but due to various delays it now does not have a release date at all. Thankfully, after months of silence, Techland has opened up to talking aboutDying Light 2again, and the company is releasing some interesting information.
Dying Lightis a first-person zombie action game that saw players free-running around a city and facing zombie hordes with a variety of firearms and melee weapons. WhileDying Light 2is looking to mix up many ofDying Light’s features, it is surprising that the developer announced the game will not prominently feature firearms.

The news comes from the developer’s first episode of a new ‘Ask Me Anything’ series to answer fan questions about the game. WhileDying Lightsaw a notable shift in gameplay once the player got access to firearms,Dying Light 2is looking to amend this by not having firearms in the world for players to find.Dying Light 2takes place a few years after the original, when a world war has destroyed most firearms across the world, leaving the player to use melee weapons and crafted equipment to survive.
However, the developers say players will be able to get their hands on a shotgun, they will just have to craft it on their own. The video gives some details about how players will be able to craft a variety of different weapons using the materials they gather from exploring and participating inDying Light 2’s new random events and dynamic encounters. The video says that crafting this particular shotgun allows players to wield it in their left hand while using a melee weapon in their right, although the shotgun will break easily. This leaves the shotgun as a powerful piece of equipment for players to use, but one that must be used sparingly as it seems it will be rather short-lived.
Removing firearms as a commonplace weapon inDying Light 2is a large change for the developer to make, but the implementation of a handcrafted shotgun could be a cool new piece of equipment for players to experiment with when the game launches. Little is still known on when players can expect the game to launch, but with aDying Light 2trademark recently surfacing, hopefully fans will not have much longer to wait.
Dying Light 2is currently in development.
