While there are some disappointed byCall of Duty: Modern Warfare’s addition of a season pass, it at least means that fans will have a steady stream of new content to unlock and enjoy well into the future. However, fans now not only know how manyCall of Dutypoints it takes to purchase one ofModern Warfare’sseason passesbut also how manyCODPoints they can earn throughout its tiers.
With the season pass, which costs 1,000 COD Points on its own, players will be able to earn 1,300CODPoints. This means thatModern Warfareplayers will be able to purchase the next season pass with the currency earned from the current, making it a similar situation toFortnite’sbattle pass. Assuming that the pricing model and reward stays the same throughout the game’s various seasons, fans may even be able to keep earning season passes indefinitely, with some left other points to spend on some of the game’s cosmetic DLC.

Being able to earn future content just by playing the game is great, as the continuous investment required otherwise can add up quickly - a major problem for live service games. All of this means that more content will be added to the game over time, some of which Activision showed off in theModern WarfareSeason 1 trailer. Having to pay for a season pass may not be ideal for some, though it is a better alternative than the game being overrun by loot boxes.
It’ll be interesting to see how many seasonsModern Warfareactually gets. Activision has already beenadding new things like Gunfight maps, and the amount of potential content is pretty much endless. However,Call of Dutyis released annually, and continuing to produce content after the next game releases could have a damaging effect on the next game’s sales.
On the other hand, rumor has it that thenextCall of Dutygame may be having some development trouble,and it’s possible thatModern Warfaremay need to be a fall back if the next game fails. Only time will tell, but there are endless possibilities as to whatModern Warfaremay wind up looking like at the end of next year.
