Summary
AFallout 3player has felled a Super Mutant Behemoth in an unconventional way, although an assist for the kill goes to the game’s jankiness. Like most Bethesda RPGs,Fallout 3has seen more than its fair share of entertaining bugs, but most of them don’t actually help the player.
Super Mutant Behemothsare much bigger, stronger versions of the standard Super Mutant, and they made their debut inFallout 3.The game clearly wants players to take these enemies seriously, as only five can be encountered in each playthrough. Along with their rarity, their high hit point count and damage output per attack tend to make each encounter with them particularly memorable.

In this case, Reddit user An_Average_Weasel has uploaded a video showing a battle against a Super Mutant Behemoth that ended in a way developer Bethesda most likely didn’t intend. The video shows the player lobbing frag grenades at the massive enemy using the modern-dayFalloutgames' VATS system. While the frag grenades were doing little to whittle away at the massive monster’s hit points, the third grenade exploded at its feet, launching the enemy several stories into the air, and after about eight seconds of hang time, the Behemoth’s feet finally made contact with the ground again, killing it instantly from the apparent fall damage. The player said this was their first playthrough ofFallout 3, and based on the location outside the Galaxy News Radio building, it’s also the first Behemoth they would have encountered in the game.
Fallout 3 Has Seen Some Hilarious Super Mutant Behemoth Glitches
This certainly isn’t the first bug in recent memory that’s been reported regarding one ofFallout 3’s not-so-gentle giants. Earlier this year, a different Reddit user shared their own video of a battle that didn’t go as planned. Armed with a Fat Man, this player fired at one of the big enemies only to have theSuper Mutant Behemoth parry the mini-nukeusing its fire hydrant club, ending with the nuclear projectile ricocheting harmlessly towards a few dead Brotherhood of Steel members' bodies.
Additionally, while not directly related to Behemoths, another player in May made a hand-to-hand fight fromFallout 3look like a scene from a shonen anime. Again utilizing VATS, this player, who was using a gangly looking character, landed four punches on a standard Super Mutant, ending with an uppercut to the back that both killed the much-bulkier opponent and tossed its hulking corpse through the air. All of these instances are proof of the buginess in Bethesda games occassionally making the experience more fun.
