The first Nintendo Direct in over a year had a lot of anticipation behind it, and there weresome welcome announcements, includingSplatoon 3andThe Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword HD.DC Super Hero Girls: Teen Powerwas also revealed alongside a trailer and a June release date, and although it wasn’t what some people were looking forward to, the game has the potential to appeal to younger audiences familiar with the Cartoon Network show.
The trailer forDC Super Hero Girls: Teen Powershowed off a handful of game mechanics, as well as the main setting of Metropolis. Some of the DC characters that will feature in the game also made an appearance, giving players a taste of how they’ll look and play when the game releases later this year. The game appears to be drawing on a wide array of DC characters, some that may be more familiar to fans than others. With how expansive DC is between comics, TV, movies, and video games, it’s worth looking into these characters for some background.

Batgirl
One of the main three characters that the trailer forDC Super Hero Girls: Teen Powerfocused on was Batgirl, otherwise known as Barbara Gordon. Batgirl is one of many associates to Batman, and in the trailer she’s seen wielding similar gadgets to the caped crusader. When she’s out of action, she can be seen wearing a purple hoodie with very noticeable bat ears, which is a clever design choice, but not exactly the best cover for her secret identity. This certainly isn’t Batgirl’s first time being featured in a video game, as she’s made appearances in theInjusticeandBatman Arkhamseries. She’ll also beone of four playable characters inGotham Knightswhen it releases sometime this year.
Supergirl
Cousin to Superman, Supergirl possesses all of the same abilities as the big blue boy scout due to her exposure to the Earth’s yellow sun. In the game’s trailer, she can be seen demonstrating similar abilities to Superman, including heat vision and super breath. The character has garnered a lot of attention recently due to her inclusion in the Arrowverse collection of TV shows on the CW, and it’s recently been revealed thatSupergirl will be in the upcomingFlashmoviethat is a part of the DCEU.
Wonder Woman
The last of the three characters thatDC Super Hero Girls: Teen Powershowed gameplay for was the Amazonian warrior, Wonder Woman. Out of the three characters that the trailer focused on, Wonder Woman is perhaps the most iconic and certainly the most well-established. She’s received a lot of attention in recent years due toher appearances in the DCEU, where she is played by actress Gal Gadot. Wonder Woman has also gotten some much needed attention in video games with her appearances in theInjusticeseries, although her inclusion in this game will likely be less violent.
Harley Quinn and Others
In addition to Batgirl, Supergirl, and Wonder Woman,the trailer that premiered during the Nintendo Directshowed off a handful of other DC characters. Teen versions of Harley Quinn, Zatanna, Bumblebee, Jessica Cruz Green Lantern, and Livewire also made appearances in the trailer, although it wasn’t specified if any of them will be playable. With how many different DC characters feature in the show that this game is based off of, there’s a lot of room for the game to fit in other heroes even if they are just NPCs.
DC Super Hero Girls: Teen Powerwill release for Nintendo Switch on June 4th.
