One of the biggest surprises from last year’s The Game Awards event was the announcement of an upcoming co-operative multiplayer game based on Sam Raimi’s belovedEvil Deadhorror film series. The game is in development from Saber Interactive and Boss Team Games and will feature characters and locations from all threeEvil Deadfilms and the Starz seriesAsh vs. Evil Dead, which ran from 2015 to 2018. Now Saber Interactive has finally revealed that Ray Santiago’s character, Pablo Simon Bolivar, will feature in the game as a playable character.
Ash vs. Evil Deadfirst debuted in October 2015 and followsthe life ofEvil Deadprotagonist Ash Williams30 years after the events of 1990’sArmy of Darkness. The series also features Ray Santiago as Pablo, and Dana DeLorenzo as Kelly Maxwell as Ash’s sidekicks in defeating the Deadites that seek to capture the souls of humans.

Saber Interactive has released the first image of Pablo inEvil Dead: The Game, who will once again be performed by Ray Santiago. Pablo was suspiciously missing from the original reveal trailer forEvil Dead: The Game, despite Kelly and Ash featuring alongsideLord Arthur fromArmy of Darknessand Scotty from the originalEvil Dead. It’s not yet known how Pablo will play in comparison to other characters, or what other characters from the franchise will feature in the game, including characters from the 2013 reboot film.
TheEvil Deadfranchise first started in 1981 with the release of Sam Raimi’sThe Evil Dead. The film was later followed up byEvil Dead 2in 1987, which is credited as being one of the most influential horror films ever made. In 1990, Sam Raimi returned withArmy of Darkness, a more comedic follow-up with a medieval setting. After this, the franchise received many video game follow-ups in the form ofEvil Dead: Hail to the Kingfor PC, PS1 and Dreamcast,Evil Dead: A Fistful of Boomstickfor PS2 and Xbox, andEvil Dead: Regenerationfor PC, PS2, and Xbox,all of which featured Bruce Campbellvoicing Ash Williams. In 2013 the franchise was rebooted in a new film produced by Raimi andAsh vs. Evil Deadstarted in 2015.
Evil Dead: The Gameis the first newEvil Deadconsole game since 2005, with Ash Williams only having appeared in Telltale Games’Poker Night 2since then. Bruce Campbell originally teased the game’s existence all the way back in January 2019, and therewas seemingly a plan for Ash to appear inMortal Kombat 11until recently.
Evil Dead: The Gamewill release in 2021 for Nintendo Switch, PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
