Who Is Gilgamesh?
Gilgamesh is a half-god and half-human born to connect ‘the rising humans and the fading gods’. As seen intheFate Grand Orderseries, Gilgamesh existed when the age of the gods was fading and humans were rising up to become the world’s new rulers. To connect the two races, Gilgamesh was born from the union of Lugalbanda, an ancient king of Uruk, and Rimat-Ninsun, the goddess of wild cows. During his time as king,Gilgamesh ruled the Sumerian city-state of Uruk, the capital city of ancient Mesopotamia.
Gilgamesh’s title, King of Heroes, was given not merely as a title but to show that he is humanity’s oldest hero and the model on which all other heroes and myths are based. Born from the union of man and goddess, Gilgamesh was born as a demi-god.

What Makes Gilgamesh So Strong?
As the King of Heroes,Gilgamesh is certainly not weak. His many powers and abilities put him above various other servants. The main reason Gilgamesh wins over various other servants is that he possesses the originals of all the Noble Phantasms. His main Noble Phantasm,Gate of Babylon, allows him access to all of the world’s treasures. With his various Noble Phantasms, Gilgamesh simply needs to exploit another servant’s weakness. As all heroic spirits have things they are weak against in life, Gilgamesh may simply find a suitable Noble Phantasm capable of taking down the servant he finds himself facing. The most powerful of Gilgamesh’s Noble phantasms is EA. Using EA’s most powerful attack, Enuma Elish, Gilgamesh is able to obliterate all in his path.
Are There Servants Capable Of Defeating Gilgamesh?
As Gilgamesh is widely called the King of Heroes and the strongest heroic spirit, many wonder if other servants are capable of defeating him. Gilgamesh’s overwhelming strength comes from his many Noble Phantasms. In terms of physical strength, he loses out to Berserkers. This shows that although Gilgamesh is immensely powerful, it is possible to overwhelm him in various areas.
During the events ofFate/Stay Night: Unlimited Blade Works, Gilgamesh battled Emiya Shirou, a human mage. Although Gilgamesh overwhelmed Emiya at first, Emiya eventually triumphed. He managed to cut off Gilgamesh’s hand before he could activate EA. Although Gilgamesh could have defeated Shirou if he had struck with EA from the beginning, he did not. This is because Gilgamesh always fights in a laid-back manner, believing his foes to be unworthy of him using EA on them. This often causes him to underestimate his foes, granting them an opportunity to defeat him before he reveals his true power, showing that servants can indeed defeat him.

Which Servants Can Beat Gilgamesh?
Of the various servants out there, the person with the highest chance of defeating the King of Heroes is undoubtedly Enkidu. Before dying and becoming a heroic spirit, Gilgamesh saw Enkidu as his rival. The goddess of creation, Aruru, shaped Enkidu from a clod of earth. Withher Noble Phantasm, Age of Babylon, Enkidu is able to create weapons of any kind from the ground using clay. Similar to Gilgamesh, Enkidu’s trump card is the Noble phantasm Enuma Elish. This allows Enkidu to transform into a divine construct that fires a great amount of energy.
Other servants with a chance at beating Gilgamesh include Jeanne d’Arc, Karna, Goetia, and King Arthur. Servants like Karna and Goetia have a lot of divinity. Karna is the son of the Sun god Surya in Indian mythology. When it comes to offense, he can harness the power of the sun itself. Goetia, on the other hand, is considered the King of Magecraft. One of his Noble Phantasms allows him to cast millions of light beams capable of destroying humanity. Another noble phantom of his exists outside reality, and he is immortal while within it.

Servants likeJeanne d’Arcand King Arthur may have a harder time facing Gilgamesh as they rely more on physical attacks than on magic. However, they are not to be underestimated. In one of the many routes ofFate/Stay Night, Saber (King Arthur) defeated Gilgamesh before he could use Enuma Elish, his ultimate attack.
