The originalFinal Fantasy 7 Remaketold its story over the course of 18 chapters, and while diving back into such a dazzling title on a next-gen console can be motivation enough, it’s really the addition of Yuffie and her story that is a big sell. Thelength of the Yuffie DLCwill span two chapters, adding another four or so hours to the game and will expand the overall story. As longtime fans know, she eventually joins up with Cloud and the gang down the road.

When she will join now is the real question, since the remake has made a number of significant changes to the original. Yuffie was once an optional character, but that’s no longer the case, as she is clearly playing a much larger role this time around. The DLC will include a new story, a new summon, Ramuh, and a new mini-game, Fort Condor. The specific details of Yuffie’s journey in the DLC aren’t fully available, so it’s not clear yethowIntergrade’sYuffie DLC will affect the sequel.

Some of those answers may lie with the game’s latest trailer, though. In early May, Square Enix released a freshIntergradetrailer that reveals a surprising cameo from aFinal Fantasy 7spin-off title. The trailer demonstrated new gameplay, expanded upon Yuffie’s story–which includes possible spoilers–and shows her and her partner tangling with a familiar villain from the past, Weiss, revealingIntergrade’sties toDirge of Cerberus. This could have interesting implications forFinal Fantasy 7 Remake.

Dirge of Cerberuswas a spin-off that starred Vincent Valentine, the second optional character from the original. Bringing a villain from that game into the Yuffie DLC was an unexpected move that might indicate Square Enix is planning to include more characters and storylines from the entireFinal Fantasy 7expanded universe and not just the original game. The appearance of Weiss could also meanIntergradeis setting up Vincent’s introductionsooner than expected.

More will be revealed whenFinal Fantasy 7 Remake Intergradereleases next month. Judging from what’s been shown so far, audiences will be getting more than they originally bargained for. All versions of the game are available for pre-order now, including the digital deluxe and all its goodies.
