In therecently concluded Tokyo Game Show 2021, popular Japanese game development and publishing company Square Enix revealed new information about several of its upcoming titles. One such video game that was discussed during the Square Enix show lineup wasChocobo GP, which is considered by fans as the successor of the aptly named PlayStation titleChocobo Racing. During TGS 2021, the game’s director shared thatChocobo GPwill be having at least 20 characters in its roster.
Chocobo GPwas announced before the Tokyo Game Show 2021 feature, during the recent September 2021 Nintendo Direct. Long-time fans were likely surprised by the announcement, given that there has not been aChocobo Racingtitle since the first one in 1999. However, with the number ofSquare Enix remasters and portsfor the Nintendo Switch, it is no wonder that the company set its sights on a well-loved title such asChocobo Racing.

At the Square Enix showcase during TGS 2021,Chocobo GP’s director Akihiko Maeda was asked during the discussion portion of the program whether the game would have additional DLCs such as maps or characters in the future. Though initially stating that he could not get into it in detail, Maeda later stated that there would be at least 20 characters inChocobo GP.However, he did not reveal which specific ones will be made available upon launch. Given thatChocobo Racingis well-known for hosting a variety ofpopularFinal Fantasycharactersand creatures, fans will likely look forward to knowing which ones they can play as racers inChocobo GP.
The Square Enix TGS 2021 showcase provided a lot of detail for gamers who are interested in purchasingChocobo GP. Not only does it bring back the old-school style ofkart racing made popular by games likeMario Kart, but the updated visuals have been updated and shown off during the program. Square Enix even had two of the game’s voice actors join in to test run the title, providing viewers with a small taste of whatChocobo GPhas in store.
Hopefully Square Enix will not hold out on information onChocobo GP, especially when it comes to the anticipated mix ofFinal Fantasycharacters it will have in its lineup. Though the game’s launch has been slated for 2022, the developers did not reveal any official date, leaving fans to speculate on the actual release period.
