The infamous house featured during the climax of director Jonathan Demme’sThe Silence of the Lambsis now available to purchase. Berkshire Hathaway has listed the Pennsylvania home for $298,500 and provided a virtual tour hosted by the real-estate agent sisters Eileen and Shannon Allan.
Based on Thomas Harris' novel of the same name,The Silence of the Lambscentered on the unusual partnership between young FBI trainee Clarice Starling and the cannibalistic serial killer Dr. Hannibal Lecter. Tasked with creating a psychological profile of the evasiveserial killer known as Buffalo Bill, Starling finds herself seeking advice from the imprisoned Lector that puts her one step closer to apprehending the wanted murderer. Starling’s pursuit leads to her tracking down Buffalo Bill by herself, finally shooting him after a tense game of cat and mouse in the darkened basement.

While it has been nearly 30 years since the house was seen inthe Academy Award-winning film, much of the interior and exterior remains unchanged, aside from some landscaping work and painting. “We really love how it still has a lot of the original features like all the trim and the hardwood floors that you see throughout the home,” said the real-estate agents in the video tour. Horror aficionados hoping the basement will have the well Buffalo Bill used to keep his victims from escaping will be disappointed to hear those sequences were actually filmed on a soundstage. However, the cold cellar featured in the film is a part of the basement and the sisters noted that the area is, “actually is kind of creepy.”
Located in Perryopolis, the four-bedroom house rests on 1.76 acres of land just along the Youghiogheny River. The interior also includes several reception rooms, one bathroom, and a three-car garage on the premises. Added bonuses include an inground pool with a new ceramic deck and a vintage caboose that could be turned into an indoor poolhouse. The official listing also notes that buyers could rent the property to potential horror fans hoping to enjoy the ties toThe Silence of the Lambs.
Buffalo Bill’s home isn’t the only famous dwelling to be made available to the public in the past month. Will Smith recently announced that he’s renting out the estate fromThe Fresh Prince of Bel-Airon Airbnb for $30 per night.
Of course, there is a chance thatSilence of the Lambsfans would rather see a fourth season of Bryan Fuller’sHannibalthan own the iconic Buffalo Bill house. The acclaimed series was canceled after the third season, but Fuller doesn’t seem to have thrown in the towel ona possibleHannibalrevival.
