Forever Skiesmay seem like another in the long line of post-apocalyptic survival games, but it has one fundamental difference. Rather than sticking players on the ground, the game places them on an airship. They fly around a ruined world, looking for parts to sustain both themselves and their vessel. Again, it amounts to the typical resource-hoarding for the genre, but it also boasts specific facets unique to the airborne situation.

The title demonstrates that in the machines that players can craft. As they garner materials, they construct advanced tools to aid in their exploits. As such, they’re well worth pursuing. Many of these contraptions deal with basic functionality, forcing players to work for tools that they may have taken for granted. Because of that, constructing these machines means the difference between soaring into the sky or crashing and burning.
6Tool Charger
Players have a wealth of equipment and devices at their disposal, but these toys aren’t much use if they have no power. Granted, mining energy crystals and swapping them out like batteries offer a temporary solution. However,this becomes annoying and increasingly difficult as the game progress. Luckily, an alternative method keeps things in-house.
Players can build a Tool Recharger. This device restores power to machines running on energy crystals, ensuring that they never run out of juice when needed. In addition, it virtually eliminates the process of farming for energy crystals. Instead, players can use that time and effort to seek out other essentials. Preventing wasteful errands is always a plus in survival titles.
5Location Radar
Speaking of searching, it pays for players to know where they’re going.Flailing around in the dark is a great way to die, especially in a post-apocalyptic setting with few resources. That’s what makes the Location Radar a worthy investment. It helps players orient themselves on the map and find various signals. These signals originate from radio towers, underdust, greenhouses, and wind farms. As such, the radar is invaluable for collecting resources. If searchers need a specific material, they know exactly where to find it.
Much like in real life, the Location Radar also aids in navigation. It displays different elevations, namely those too high to fly over. In addition, the exclamation points lead to quest objectives. Finally, question marks indicate undiscovered locations. Most of these mechanics mirror basic signals from other open-world games, but Forever Skies requires some extra effort to make them available.
4Turbine
Not all resources lie on the ground. Many are in elevated positions. Worse, the airship can only reach a certain altitude to start, meaning that those rare materials are out of reach. This problem necessitates an upgrade.
Namely, players could construct more turbines. The basic variety adds 20 meters to one’s maximum altitude, but better-quality models multiply that number. They can also save on weight. After all, overloading the ship with turbines defeats the purpose of going higher. By properly placing them,players can reach those skyward treasure trovesand load up with stuff they actually want.
3More Balloons
The irony with Forever Skies is that the goal is to gather resources to survive. Unfortunately, the ship soon runs out of room for those resources. The tub has a finite amount of space, and it can only take so much weight before descending. At the same time, though, it’s not viable to constantly discard items to stay afloat.
Rather, simply build more balloon cores; these outfit the ship with additional balloons. Players must not only have the materials to craft these cores, but they must expand the ship’s area to fit them. It can be a pain to undergo that extra step to accommodate, but it’s worth the struggle in the long run. As players progress in the tale, they should strive to expand their ship in this way. Otherwise, they’ll always hit the same wall in their growth.
2Rain Collector
Water is an essential resource in any survival scenario. Forever Skies has several sources on the ground. Players shouldn’t get too comfortable with these patches, though, as it becomes more difficult to land later in the game. Luckily, groundwater isn’t the only option.
Thirsty pilots can build a Rain Collector. As the name suggests, this machine collects water from rainfall. As a result, it provides a practically limitless supply, meaning one less thing to worry about when searching for resources.The water isn’t quite ready to drink, however. That’s where another essential machine comes into play.
1Purification Machine
The water collected from the rain may be plentiful, but that doesn’t mean it’s safe to drink. On the contrary, the liquid has a heap of bacteria.This isn’t surprising given the environment’s apocalyptic conditions. Because of that, players must filter and purify the rainwater; only then can it be consumed.
This is why the Purification Machine ought to be an equally high priority as the Rain Collector. One is useless without the other. Smart players will only build one if they can also afford the other. Otherwise, they’re stuck with a hunk of junk and a load of dirty water. They might as well drink out of a toilet.
