Less than a month afterJumpship confirmed thatSomervilleis coming to PlayStation, the game is now finally available on the PS4 and PS5. As is the case with the majority of contemporary indies, the latest addition to Sony’s game catalog is a digital-only release, available exclusively via the PlayStation Store. The newly introduced ports retail at $24.99, which is consistent withSomerville’spricing on PC and Xbox consoles.
TheSomervillePlayStation Store page reveals that its PS5 version offers support for the DualSense controller’s adaptive triggers, which can offer dynamic levels of resistance depending on what’s happening on the screen. Whilegames that use adaptive triggersare far from a rarity nowadays, this particular detail implies that Jumpship went through the effort of optimizing its first-ever title for the PS5 instead of merely relying on its backward compatibility with the PS4.
TheSomervillePlayStationports are published by Thunderful Group, a Swedish holding company specializing in the development and distribution of indie and otherwise niche games. Though it was only founded in 2019, Thunderful already embarked on quite a shopping spree over the last few years, having purchased Jumpship as its tenth-ever acquisition shortly after the studio releasedSomervillein late 2022. Now that the game finally reached Sony’s consoles, Thunderful is expected to focus onSteamWorld Build, the next installment in the long-running steampunk franchise that’s scheduled to hit PC and the last two console generations on December 1.
