Summary

Fortniteplayers have voiced their desire for the return of Bows, a weapon type first introduced in 2019’s Season 8. Before the newest season’s launch, some fans assumed Bows would return due toFortnite’s new theme.

Fortnite’s Chapter 5 Season 2 updatein early March introduced a Greek mythology theme and added new weapons and powers inspired by the ancient tradition. With enough looting or defeating a boss, users can perform actions like throwing Zeus' lightning bolts, using the Chains of Hades, or flying with the Wings of Icarus. Additionally, the update added new locations themed around these figures and ancient mythology, which some fans believe would have made a great match for Bows.

Reddit user Leozzarios posted a thread to the FortniteBR subreddit that lamented this season’s emphasis on sniper rifles as a long-range option, which the user believes should have been replaced with Bows instead. The post attracted plenty of otherFortnitefans with similar opinions, who pointed out that the traditional weapon fits this season much better. One of the game’s newest loading screens added withFortnite’s The Legend of Korra eventeven depicts the goddess Artemis using a Bow. While there’s still plenty of time to see the return of Bows inFortnite’s Chapter 5 Season 2, which doesn’t end until May 24, it seems unlikely that Epic would make such a drastic meta change late in a season.

Fortnite’s Bowsfeature a variety of abilities, with some allowing for enhanced movement while others focus on damage. The many different types of Bows give Epic some freedom in deciding how to implement them into a season’s meta. A weapon like the Grappler Bow could’ve been used in place of this season’s Impulse Grenades or Wings of Icarus, while the Primal Bow could’ve replaced the Huntress DMR. However, Epic clearly decided against the reintroduction of Bows this season, but they will likely return eventually.

Although Epic has regularly implementedbalance changes forFortnite’s sniper rifles, the weapon type remains somewhat controversial. The lowest rarity of this season’s Reaper Sniper Rifle can eliminate a fully shielded enemy in one bullet with a headshot, and while this does reward good aim with a satisfying outcome, it can also lead to significant frustration among users who feel they never had a chance in a gunfight.

How To Counter Fortnite’s Sniper Rifles

Players can useFortnite’s mod bench locationsto beef up their own weapons and help counter a competent sniper rifle user. Other counters to this season’s sniper rifles include vehicles, mobility items, building if playingFortnite’s original format, or standing still as little as possible, which makes a headshot much harder to land for an enemy sniper.
