Launching in 2017, theFriday the 13thvideo game developed byIllfonicand published by Gun Media has had a strange few years on the gaming scene. Debuting to mixed reviews, it did a lot to build up a community in the months following its launch, only to enter a development-halting legal dispute with the game’s original scriptwriter last year.
As it stands, the game lost a lot of traction after it was told it could no longer add new content, with Illfonic instead focusing on providing fixes and maintaining dedicated servers. However, according to a forum post from the game’s lead community developer, the last update forFriday the 13thwill release this month, with dedicated servers for the title also slated to be shut down.

Although many might be concerned this spells the end forFriday the 13th,the community developer confirms players will still be able to play peer-to-peer quick matches and private games. The database servers are also going to be active, so players can access their progression and unlocks. Additionally, the patch will featurebug fixes players have been after for a while, with the finalized list releasing prior to the update’s release. The forums will also be archived so players can access prior discussions.
As for the game’s social media, it will be stripped back, only posting necessary announcements or updates. The game will also still be up for sale, and players can continue to access JasonKillsBugs.com as a source of troubleshooting. Finally, the double XP, CP, and Tape Drop rates that were set during the beginning of the pandemic will continue “indefinitely,” so players can still reap the benefitswhile getting gory kills as Jason.
All in all, it seems like Illfonic is looking to make the best out ofFriday the 13th’sunfortunate legal issues. For those who didn’t keep up with the story last year, it saw the studio barred from adding any promised additional content to the game. The team originally was looking to addJason X’snotorious Uber Jason and a map based on the movie’s spaceship, alongside several other camp counselors.
When asked whether the team could incorporate original content that wasn’t from the franchise, it was revealed that Illfonic wasn’t allowed to add anything new to the title. The studio has gone on to developPredator: Hunting Groundin its wake, continuing its slasher-focused asymmetric multiplayer style.
