AnOverwatch 2player discovered a game-breaking Sombra bug on one of the game’s payload maps. With some careful positioning, players can glitch theOverwatch 2hero into the payload.

Overwatch 2,the sequel to Activision Blizzard’s acclaimed team-based first-person shooter, released October 2022. There have been several changes made by the sequel, butOverwatch 2kept the Escort game mode. The attacking team has to escort a payload across the map into the end zone, while the defending team has to block the payload until the clock runs out. The payload only moves when attacking team members are near it, and if there are no attackers nearby, the payload will slowly move backwards. That’s what makes this particular Sombra glitch so game-breaking.

The exploit was displayed in a video posted by Matty221998 on theOverwatch 2subreddit. The enemy Sombra player darts around the payload invisibly before tossing her Translocator beacon into the payload’s path. After waiting for a few seconds, the payload passes over the beacon and Sombra triggers her ability. In the blink of an eye, the enemy hero appears inside the payload, with the glitched interior clipping in and out. The other team can be seen circling around the payload from the outside, but they are unable to do anything about her interfering with the payload. While there will probably always bebugs inOverwatch 2, not all of them are quite so game-changing.

Whether players are on the attacking or defending team, using Sombra’s Translocator ability like this can be extremely strong in the Escort game mode. If a defending player can get safely hidden away inside the payload, the attacking team’s options to deal with them can be quite limited, and might make it impossible toescort theOverwatch 2payload forward. Likewise, being able to have an attacking player tucked into the payload and invincible to the defending team could have a similar effect, but in reverse.

Some players in the video comments, including Matty221998, want Sombra to be disabled until the bug is fixed. That’s not an unreasonable ask from players, since this exploit has such strong potential to change the tide of an Escort match. However, while bugs have led to some heroes being disabled in the past, theOverwatch 2team did not disable Tracerwhen a damage bug was discovered with the hero.

On the other hand, Sombra fans would no doubt be pretty upset if their main hero was unavailable to play. Being able to exploit the Translocator ability so severely, though, seems like a problem that many other players would prefer to be solved.

Overwatch 2is out now on PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
