While developer Creative Assembly may be best known for its work on theTotal Warseries or perhaps the survival-horror experience ofAlien: Isolation, but it seems that the studio is often one to try new genres and gameplay styles, rather than sticking to producing similar titles.Creative Assembly’s latest project, a multiplayer team-based shooter entitledHyenas, seems to be unlike anything the developer has created before. The first-person shooter pits three teams of five players against each other in order to pull off a heist against some of the richest people in space. Objective based, competitive gameplay has been seen plenty of times in gaming.Overwatch 2, for example, has players capture points or secure a payload. However, Creative Assembly ensured gamers thatHyenaswill offer a new multiplayer shooter experienceand showed off what an early version of the game would look like to a few people in a closed alpha test. It was requested to all those participating in the test that they not share anything aboutHyenas.RELATED:Video Shows What Alien Isolation 2 Could Look Like in Unreal Engine 5For the most part, it seemed like the alpha test went well, with players not recording and sharing what they’d seen online. Recently, however, a video popped up on YouTube which has since been made private, displaying some alpha gameplay ofHyenas. There was about an hour of footage of the game available for fans to view, including some matches alongside a general showcase of what the game looks like in its alpha stage. All of it was heavily watermarked, with the leaker’s username shown, so it seemed only a matter of time before it was taken down. In today’s gaming world, it seems leaks are part and parcel of the hobby, with sometitles likeMultiVersusalso having a lot of gameplayand data shown from an alpha test.
Hyenaswas only unveiled in June, and before that,Creative Assembly teased the upcoming shooterin a magazine interview. So far, the release date for the title is vaguely set for 2023, but now that some gameplay has leaked, there are fans who believe this could indicateHyenascould be ready for a launch early next year rather than later. Still, until Creative Assembly confirms anything about the game, it seems fans will have to wait and see if aHyenasbeta or even full release is set for the near future.
2023 already looks to be a stacked year for video games, though a lot of the big titles coming in that year are delayed releases from 2022. Thedelays of games likeStarfield,Redfall, and most recentlyHogwartsLegacymay leave 2022 feeling like the pressure’s on for big releases such asGod of War: RagnarokandPokemon ScarletandVioletto perform well, but they will also make 2023 a great year for gaming.
Hyenasis currently in development.
