Buzz surrounding the upcomingSteam Decksystem has begun to increase again, after having a bit of a lull towards the latter parts of 2021. WithValve now saying the handheld PC is on track for a February release, this could explain why a lot of people have started talking about it again. Of course, the main thing that everyone wants to know is how well it’ll be able to play some of the biggest releases. While there have been some concerns about compatibility since it was announced, a list of games are now being verified for the device.
According to a database uploaded to SteamDB, a third-party website which keeps a close eye on all things related to Valve’s proprietary properties, including theSteam Deck, dozens of games are now being listed with their suitability for the device being shown as well. At the time of writing, there are 86 games in the database, no doubt with more being added. However, this does not necessarily mean that all the games there will be 100% compatible with the Deck just yet.

There are a number of notable games that have been included so far, and many of which are shown as “verified” meaning that, as far as the list is concerned, they should be able to play on the device once released. Titles such asKojima Productions’Death Stranding, Double Fine’sPsychonauts 2, and Valve’s ownPortal 2are featured. However, games likeTitanfall 2are currently showing as “playable” which likely means that the game will run, but perhaps be missing some functions or will need some tweaking.
While things seem to be coming along nicely, 86 is a far cry from the more than 50,000 games that the Steam platform currently houses.Valve did hire people to test games on the Decktowards the latter parts of last year, so they will likely be currently working to make sure as many are compatible once the device drops at the end of February.
Whilesome things won’t be featured on Steam Deck like Nvidia DLSS, due to the device using an AMD graphics chip, it’s so far shaping up to be an exciting handheld system. While many were originally comparing it to the Nintendo Switch, the company has insisted that this goes beyond being a simple portable console, in that it offers the same functionality as a PC, including mouse and keyboard compatibility. Let’s hope it can live up to everyone’s expectations.
