Player Mistakes

Back to All Characters

Xiangling is the Head Chef at the Wanmin Restaurant, known for her “unusual” dishes that often feature “exotic” ingredients. For Xiangling, it is boring to limit herself to one style of cooking. That’s why this adventurous Chef would not hesitate to use ingredients that others won’t even consider.

Xiangling is one ofthe best free-to-play charactersinGenshin Impact. Players canobtain this Liyue Chefin the early game by clearing Floor 3, Chamber 3 of the Spiral Abyss. She is a 4-star Pyro Polearm character and has amazing versatility as a support. However, there are some common mistakes among the player base that can make her less effective. Here’s how to avoid them.

8Not Having Energy Recharge

Xiangling’s Elemental Burst,Pyronado, is one of the best offensive support inGenshin Impact. Players can swap Xiangling out after casting her Elemental Burst, but the Pyronado will remain on the field, meaning it has fantastic utility.

However, players should keep in mind that Xiangling’s Elemental Burstrequires 80 Energyto be used. Xiangling also has a rather poor Energy generation, so she won’t be able to maintain a good uptime with her Elemental Burst. To avoid this dilemma, players should considergiving Xiangling some Energy Recharge.

7Misplacing Her Elemental Skill

Xiangling’s Elemental Skill allows her to summonGuoba, a panda-like creature. Guoba will stay in his place and attack the enemy, while continuously applying Pyro to the enemies as well. This adds to Xiangling’s amazing Pyro application ability.

Misplacing Guoba on the field is a mistake players often make because of how clumsily Xiangling throws him. Players shouldknow where to place Guobato fully benefit from it. Additionally, Guoba can move if a character “pushes” it. It also can be moved by some Anemo skills, such as the Traveler’s Anemo Elemental Skill or Burst.

6Playing Her As A Main DPS

Xiangling has decent damage, so it’s not surprising if players want her as their main DPS. However, there are other characters that can excel better in the main DPS role. Generally speaking, Xiangling is best used as asub-DPS.

It is not advised to play Xiangling as the main DPS, simply becauseplayers will lose a lot of her supportive abilities. Xiangling can greatly contribute to amplifying other characters' damage while she perfectly applies Pyro and triggering reactions. The sub-DPS role allows Xiangling to shine without blocking the main DPS' spotlight.

5Not Knowing Her Snapshot Feature

Some characters inGenshin Impacthave a “snapshot” skill, which allows certain skills to carry the buff it provides when the skill is cast.Even after the buff disappears, the skill will benefit from the buff, because it was cast when the buff was available.

For example, if players use Bennett’s Inspiration Field followed by Xiangling’s Pyronado,Pyronado will keep benefitting from Bennett’s attack buff even after the Inspiration Field is gone. Not only does Pyronado benefit, but Xiangling also snapshots her Guoba. Knowing this feature will allow players to improve their casting time.

4Not Using Her Against Abyss Lector

Abyss Lector is aSpiral Abyss enemyintroduced inGenshin Impact1.5. He is a part of the Abyss Order, and utilizes Electro in his attacks. These scholars of the Abyss also protect themselves with Electro Shield, after players drop their HP to a certain amount.

The most effective way to break this shield is by using Pyro and Cryo attacks, but there are a few alternatives to this. These include Chongyun’s Cryo field, Bennett’s C6 Pyro field, Bennett with Thundering Fury, and, of course, Xiangling’s Pyronado.Pyronadotriggers Overloads multiple times in its duration, allowing players to melt the Abyss Lector’s shield.

3Using The Wrong Equipment

Xiangling’s combat style is all about her Elemental Burst. She needs to have as much Energy Recharge as she can get in order to keep using her Pyronado. Some players may consider giving her 4-set of Crimson Witch of Flames — or even worse, giving her the wrong Polearm.

The Head Chef of the Wanmin Restaurantwill perform better while equipped with4-set of Noblesse Oblige, boosting her Burst damage while boosting her teammates' attack every time she Bursts. The new4-Emblem of Severed Fatealso boosts Xiangling’s Burst damage and allows her to use her Pyronado more often.

As forher best weapon, the choice depends on Xiangling’s team composition. For most teams, the4-star Favonius Lance or 5-star Skyward Spineare great choices for Xiangling. On the other hand, if it was a team that relies on Elemental Reactions,Dragon’s Banecan further boost her Elemental Reactions damage.

2Not Teaming Her With The Right Main DPS

Since Xiangling is a free character that players obtain at the start of theirGenshin Impactjourney, some would use her in any team they start with. As a result, when Xiangling underperforms, players will switch her out and not use her again.

Teaming Xiangling with the right Main DPS is crucial to fully benefit from her kit. Teaming her with Pyro users likeDilucorHu Taowill Amplify their damage.AyakaandChilde’sstyle of combat benefits greatly from Xiangling’s Pyro application. Additionally, characters likeKazuhaorXiaoalso benefit from her amazing Pyro application.

1Not Considering Her Supportive Abilities

In addition to her amazing Pyro applications, Xiangling has many supportive abilities. Even her constellations further boost them. Herlast constellation adds 15% Pyro Dmgto her party during her Elemental Burst Pyronado, and herfirst constellation reduces enemies' Pyro resistance by 15%when they’re hit by Guoba’s attack. Additionally, her Pyronado’s duration is also boosted with her 4th constellation. These constellations make Xiangling adeadly support for Pyro Main DPS.

Even Xiangling’s Guoba also has a support boost. When Guoba leaves the field, it will leave a chili thatboosts any character’s attack when they pick it up. However, it should be noted that this attack boost is only given to the character picking up the chili, and not to the whole team.
